Ainol V8000HD is a HDMI PMP
HDMI PMP? yep, that’s mean Ainol V8000HD is a high-end definition Portable media player that you can connect it to your HDTV via HDMI cable. It’s all thanks to the HDMI port located at the sideways of the PMP. Well, it’s obviously a HD device by judging from the code name alone. Ainol V8000HD will be available in three different models, starting from:
- the V8000HDG (Jetfire) with a 5-inch 800×480 touchscreen
- the V8000HDB (Defcon) with a 4.3-inch 480×272 display and
- V8000HDA (Metorplex) that gets a 4.3-inch 800×480 touch display
You can use Ainol V8000HD series PMP to play most of the popular media format such as MKV, MOV, MP4, MP3, WAV and WMA. The device also support H.264 or MPEG-AVC decoding and you can connect the device to your PC via the provided USB port located above the HDMI port. It will going to launch soon, but the pricing remain unknown.
Note: It seems the Ainol want us to call it PVP instead of PMP. PVP is stand for Portable Video Player, which I think it make no different at all…

I returned my Ainol V8000HDG to Ownta for a refund, because the V8000 does NOT support HDMI when used with American (NTSC-only) televisions. I tried the HDMI connection on three different NTSC-only televisions and it failed on all three.
Buyer beware: The Ainol V8000HDG does NOT support HDMI on American NTSC televsions.
Buyer beware: Ownta only returned 70% of my payment (and none of the two way shipping costs, which cost me around $50) because Ownta plugged the V8000HDG into a Chinese market PAL television and it worked over HDMI, so Ownta claims it isn’t defective. It is defective, because it only supports PAL (50Hz) signals over HDMI, it doesn’t support NTSC (60Hz) signals over HDMI.
Buyer beware: Don’t buy the Ainol V8000HDG and don’t buy from Ownta if you plan on using HDMI on an American NTSC televsion. It doesn’t work and you’ll lose your money.
Hi there! Thanks for your input about the incompatibility with American tv mode. This is a valuable fact for future buyer that reside in the USA.
The Ainol V8000HDG HDMI doesn’t work on European (PAL 50HZ) televisions either.
