HP Adding New USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drives To The Market


HP, the well-known brand in printer and PC market has just stomped their feet into the portable hard drive market by releasing their own USB 3.0 portable hard drives. There are three models available, 500GB, 750GB and 1TB and they are all standing on the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ground that could transfer as fast as 5Gbps.

The HP portable hard drives are said to be backward compatible with USB 2.0, too. In case your PC haven’t get the USB 3.0 treatment, you can always go back to USB 2.0 interface with these portable hard drives.


The hard drive is only require single USB port to properly power up, which mean you don’t need to find any Y-cable to support this HP portable hard drive.

It supports Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, backed with 2-year warranty. No pricing and availability details yet. however. It should be far from other USB 3.0 hard drive‘s pricing.

UPDATE: It’s now available for pre-order at J&R for $79 (500GB), $99 (750GB) and $129 (1TB).
