SunSwift IVy: The Fastest Solar Powered Vehicle

We have heard about solar powered car for awhile, but do you know how far it has been developed until today? It was reported that the latest solar-powered vehicle can now travel at the speed of 88km/h, which has clearly beating the previous record of 78kph set by GM Sunraycer in 1987.


This solar powered car was developed and designed by students at UNSW (University of New South Wales) with the name of “Sunswift Ivy”. The vehicle is made with monocoque carbon fiber body, powered by Brushless CSIRO 3 phase DC 1800W electric motor with the solar panel arrays producing about 1200W.

The test took place at HMAS Albatross navy base airstrip in Nowra, Australia. Take a look of the details at the following video:
