Do you know that a flash drive is now as fast as an SSD in transferring data? Well, it’s a new record set by Super Talent with their new USB 3.0 Express RC8 flash drive. It’s claimed that to be able to read and write as fast as 270MB/s and 240MB/s, respectively.
At that record, it’s 2 or 3 times faster than the existing fastest USB 3.0 flash drives that averaging on 90MB/s and 60MB/s only. That’s mean in the future, buying an SSD and USB 3.0 flash drive will get the same performance. What’s left is the pricing factor. If USB 3.0 flash drive is more expensive, I’ll get an SSD instead.
Anyway, let’s take a look on the “inner beauty” of this Super Talent USB 3.0 Express RC8 flash drive. What’s allow this flash drive to perform that fast?
According to the source, Super Talent flash drive itself is an SSD. It uses SandForce SSD processor component, bringing some of the first tier SSD features into the flash drive. USB 3.0 Express RC8 flash drive is using 8 channel of NAND memory, DuraClass technology and DuraWrite technology to make the flash drive even more reliable with amazing durability and data integrity.
Even better, the outer shell of Super Talent is enclosed with Aluminum case for stronger protection. I’ve said that it’s great if the price is reasonable. As what the Press Release has stated, this Super Talent USB 3.0 Express RC8 flash drive 50GB model is going to retail for $110. There is a smaller size at 25GB which may cost about half of 50GB model at $60, and larger model 100GB with unannounced price. Taking prediction into the count, 100GB model shouldn’t be more than $250.
Now, it’s depend on you. Fast performing SSD with 120GB or more is averaging on $250, too. You’d probably get the same price for both device, it’s just the shell and interface that’s different.
