Thanks to the Pico projector technology, now even a handycam has a built-in projector to view the recording result, if user think that the default screen is too small.
We have seen the digital camera with built-in projector (Nikon CoolPix S1000pj) that is capable of projecting up to 40-inch of display. We have been blown away already by the specs, and thought nothing could beat it any sooner. Well, it assumption is wrong.
Sony recently has updated their new Handycam line with HDR-PJ50, which is the first Camcorder that has a built-in projector at the rear side of the built-in display!
As what have been reported by TechTree, Sony HDR-PJ50 Handycam is capable of handling 1080p full HD video recording, as well as projecting the result to a flat surface (in a dark room) up to 60-inch within the range of 3 meters.
There is no mention on the exact specs of the contrast ratio, but the report has stated that Sony HDR-PJ50 projector handycam has a high-contrast ratio, but only viewable in a dark room. Expect it to be around 20 to 40 LUMENS in this case.
As for the handycam specification, Sony HDR-PJ50 has featured 12x optical zoom which could be boosted to 17x. It’s nice for observing/recording something from afar yet you can still see the objects clearly.
Sony HDR-PJ50 projector camcorder is capable of capturing still image using 7.1-megapixels lens sensor. The handycam has come with 220GB hard drive installed inside, which is more than enough to record hundred hours of movies. To support the playback, Sony has equipped HDR-PJ50 with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound that produce True-to-Life sounds.

While the camcorder was just released in India, B&H does appear to list it (with a basic accessory kit) for $1,200+.
