The latest car manufacturer that jumped on the electric vehicle’s bandwagon is BMW. They’ve showed some interest in creating a new series of EVs that is friendly to the Mother Earth. BMW’s new electric car concepts are the BMW i3 and BMW i8, which featuring extra-ordinary futuristic design.
The SUV-like BMW i3 is a car with rear-wheel-drive (which originally called the MegaCity), made with aluminum and carbon-fiber reinforced plastics. BMW i3 can hold up to 8 passengers with four up front and another four in the rear seat. This EV has 170 horsepower, which tops out at 93 MPH. Solely powered by Liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, each full charge can run about 80-100 miles, and it can go from 0 to 60MPH in just 8 seconds counting.
On the other hand, BMW i8 is a four-wheel-drive type of car using hybrid system. The hybrid system is the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that run the rear wheels, while there is also an electric motor that roll the front wheels. BMW i8 is more powerful as it has got 220 horse power with perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
Sadly, apart from the concept design, BMW haven’t yet to release the information on when they’ll mass produce these cars.
