Through the cooperation between Qualcomm and Kyobo, the Korean’s leading bookstore, they’ve created a new ebook reader that is known as the world’s first ebook reader to come with the magic mirasol color e-paper display.
It’s been awhile we haven’t heard about mirasol technology as most big players in the State are avoiding it. The reason is because manufacturing monochrome e-ink like Kindle or Nook touch is way cheaper than using display like mirasol. No wonder, this is also the reason why Kyobo Android eReader is quite expensive when comparing to Kindle or Nook eReader.
Specification wise, Kyobo eReader is coming with a rather small display at 5.7-inch only, but it support 1024 x 768p and Qualcomm has put their front-light technology to use in this eReader. This technology will allow users to read their book even it’s in dark, without costing much on the battery factor.
The eBook reader is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor, which is pretty much sufficient for activity like reading books and browse the web. Sadly, this Kyobo eReader is only coming with WiFi-only connectivity. You won’t be able to hook up with the net if there is no hotspot or local wireless network available.
As for the Kyobo service, they are offering up to 90,000 ebooks for read that is fully compatible with the colorful display. This ebook reader is currently on sale for $310 in Korea. No idea if it would enter to the Stateside to challenge Kindle and Nook.
