Pioneer is introducing new external blu-ray writer that is getting lighter and slimmer than any external blu-ray writer available in the market today. The codename is BDR-XD04J, a 6x external blu-ray writer that has been claimed as the world’s smallest and lightest blu-ray writer.
Sadly, Pioneer haven’t make the leap to the new standard of USB 3.0 yet. This Pioneer BDR-XD04J is still using the old USB 2.0 connection standard, which the speed has been limited to 480Mbps only. To protect the burning process, there is a 4MB buffer memory installed inside so that no error would be made when burning a BD disc.
This slimmest external blu-ray drive is going to be marketed on January 2012 for about $230 USD.
