In the past, a stronger performing processing unit is always a match to a decreasing battery life on portable device such as a laptop. However, that’s a story from the yesteryears anyway. Since AMD invented Fusion APUs, not only the mobile processor is faster, the battery life is also improving significantly.

AMD has recently announced a new update for their AMD Fusion APU processor by inserting the C and E-Series APUs to the market. This update bring the processor to a better HD graphic capability, DDR3 1333 support for wider memory bandwidth, faster performance and video playback, DisplyaPort ++ support and more on the support for HDMI 1.4a that is capable of displaying 3D contents.

The most interesting improvement is on the battery life. AMD Fusion C-Series APU is capable of getting long 12-hours of battery life, while the E-Series APU is a little bit over the 10-hours battery life.

Not only that, according to the information we have received, most of ultraportables that uses AMD Fusion APU are affordable. You can actually pick up a system that play HD video, 10 hours of battery life for under $399 when it’s hitting the market.

It’s interesting to see how AMD Fusion APU is going to impact the market, and how Intel will response to this attack. Can Intel’s second generation precessors defeat this technology?

When you are searching for a new tablet to support your work, there are two most favorable choices in the market when it come to the performance. You can choose either the NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC powered model or go for the growing mightier Broadcom dual core processor. Unlike in the past, we often mentioned about “Intel CPU” when looking for a good system. It seems Intel has been left out by the market, especially on the tablet market. To ‘troubleshoot’ this, Intel has finally come up with their own tablet processor to bring back their fame. Known as Inteal Atom Z670, this processor is the latest Oak Trail processor built using 45mm manufacturing process and support up to 1.5GHz and 1080p video playback with the help of Intel GMA 600 built-in GPU.

The benefits of Intel Atom Z670 Oak Trail Processor is the low power consumption processing, longer battery life and it’s capable of running without any cooling fan at all. That is the reason that Atom Z670 is suitable for small and thin device like tablet or mini computer. Intel even promises that we can see up to 35 innovative tablet and hybrid designs in this 2011 through several brands like Fujitsu, Lenovo, Viliv, etc. We are interested to see if Intel can really bring back their name in the tablet world or not.

It was nominated as the fastest CPU by few hardware specialist, where they’ve said that the core that has the default speed at 3.46GHz could be turbo-boosted to 3.73GHz without much tweaking and setting. Of course, when it landed on overclocking maniac, this Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition CPU would be able to reach an entire new ground of speed. No idea what it’s capable of yet when overclocked, but it should be able to reach 5GHz without problem.

It might be pretty overwhelming, but that’s the fact offered by IBM. They’ve just claimed the world’s title of the fastest CPU ever made until today. At the level of 5.2GHz, the IBM’s Z196 Processor could obviously run anything you throw at it in miliseconds count.

Looking back to my laptop, it’s really pitiful at the level of 2.53Ghz only. And it’s about twice as fast as a 2.66Ghz Processor! IBM is using 45nm fabrication technology to give birth to this new speed demon that is standing at the top of the world right now.

The processor itself features 1.4 billion of transistors and it’s going to crunch more than 50 millions of instructions every second. Imagine if you can undress and dress yourself 50 millions time in one second. That’s a BIG WOW.

Despite of the Huge revenue loss (NT$1.44 billion) on this year’s first half, VIA is not getting discouraged. They’ve just announced that they’re now developing and preparing the new dual-core Nano CPUs and Quad-core CPU by the end of 2011. Aside from new CPUs in 2011, it’s also reported that VIA is going to release their new chipset VN11 that is the first graphic core to support DirectX 11 features.

It sounds promising for them to start making an impact for the market as they’ve always stayed low in the low-mid stream market since their start.

However, with the market long dominated by the two kings Intel and AMD, there is some sort of difficulty for VIA to squeeze in. Unless they are targeting the different market segment and niches, they’ll probably going to loss even more in the future.

The latest news that we obtained from Geeky Gadgets and GadgetVenue stating that 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU is going to make its landing soon. The new faster CPU is created with a better power management system, and it could handle Full HD video playback (1080o) even better than the current cell phones model. Of course, a faster processor also means that you can process anything faster, and hopefully multitasking would become even more swift and smooth, too.

Until today, we have found several cell phone manufacturers has shipped their new phones with 1.2Ghz Qualcomm CPU, I bet it won’t take long until the first wave to start delivering cell phones with this faster processor.

Namely the Core i7-870 that has a massive $268 slashed down and Xeon X3470 that has dropped from $589 to $328. This is an impressive deal for those who have long aiming to buy the CPU. However, the newer CPU version is not that expensive too! Especially the Core i5-760 that fall under $205 only. Enthusiast gamers who have a strict budget can now build a powerful gaming PC based on LGA 1156 system.

Also, Server owner might raving upon the Xeon X3470 that has massive $261 price drop. Making a Xeon-powered server is not as expensive as in the past.

It’s been awhile netbook stick on the DDR2 and it’s time for them to goes faster with the DDR3 standard. Both of the Atom D425 and D525 are 1.8Ghz clock speed with 512KB and 1MB of L2 cache. It’s just sounds right for office works, but not for gaming mode.

Intel has set their Atom processor down to the mobile device, where in the future, you can see Intel Atom (Z6) CPU embedded on tablets and smartphones.

The Intel Atom Z6 is known as ‘Moorestown’, where it is a single core processor that can run at 1.9Ghz max core clock speed. To support this new Intel Atom Z6 CPU, Intel is showing off a new device that has come embedding the CPU.

The device is called “Aava Mobile”, which is a smartphone that has the look of Blackberry bold, but it has 3.8-inch screen powered with Atom Z6 1.5Ghz CPU.

As for tablet device, Intel revealing OpenPeak tablet that featuring 7-inch touchscreen, and carrying the fastest processor 1.9Ghz of Intel Z6 CPU.

There is no benchmark score yet so no one know how it will perform in tablets and smartphones. But hopefully, multitasking will become easier on such a media tablet and smartphones.

Intel, the giant chip manufacturer has inserted two more baby CPUs to their line. The two CPUs are 45nm Pentium E5500, and the strongest chip of the class Core i5-680 with 32nm fabrication process.

For the details, Pentium E5500 is a LGA 775 CPU, running on the speed of 2.80 GHz, 2 threads, 2MB of L2 cache, no-hyperthreading feature available, has 800 MHz FSB and will cost $75 only.

On The Intel Core i5-680, this is the true monster released from Intel’s sleeve. It’s believed to be the most powerful LGA 1156 dual-core CPU that runs on 3.60GHz processor speed.

It features 4 threads, 4MB of L3 cache, Integrated graphic chipset and TDP of 73W. But new stuff is always pricey. Intel Core i5-680 32nm CPU will cost you $294, appear to be $10 higher than its brother Core i5-670.

The Intel Nehalem-EX processors are known as the Xeon 6500 and 7500 series, where they are featuring 4, 6 or 8 cores in single chip, and up to 16 threads with 24MB of L3 cache, four QPI links, 95W and 130W TDP and about 20 new reliability features.

This type of overwhelming feature might not hit the consumer level soon, but I believe a similar version with lower production cost has been in the developing stage so consumer end can also reap some benefits of the 8-cores Xeon processors.

“The Xeon 7500 brings mission critical capabilities to the mainstream by delivering the most significant leap in performance, scalability and reliability ever seen from Intel,” said Kirk Skaugen, vice president of the Intel architecture group and general manager of Intel’s data center group. “This combination will help users push to new levels of productivity, and accelerate the industry’s migration away from proprietary architectures. We are democratizing high-end computing.”

You might have heard about Intel’s Pine Trail CPU and some people said that the CPU is practically faster than Atom first generation. Well, it seems this fact is not true at all. According to AnandTech, the Intel’s latest Pine Trail CPU is still undergoing the same FSB interface before it can hook up with the IMC. So it’s not true at all if someone is trying to sell you a netbook stating that Intel Pine Trail is the faster CPU in comparison to Atom based netbook.

<img src="http://www.hardwaresphere.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/dual-core-atom-vs-intel-pine-trail-cpu-interface.jpg" alt="dual-core-atom-vs-intel-pine-trail-cpu-interface" " title="dual-core-atom-vs-intel-pine-trail-cpu-interface" width="500" height="460" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-13319" />

There’s still a FSB interface between the CPU core and the memory controller. It’s all on die, but the Pineview CPU core still needs to go through the FSB unit before it can touch the IMC. That’s why the latency didn’t improve much, if at all. There are some improvements that do allow for better performance, but not what you’d expect from a redesigned, integrated memory controller.

Why would Intel do this? It saves time and thus money. Pineview literally uses the same Bonnell core as Diamondville but placed next to an on-die memory controller. A tightly integrated memory controller would require a redesigned version of the Bonnell core, something Intel wasn’t willing to commit to at this point.

For more details about this fact, you can find it out at AnandTech article. It sounds like I’ve been fooled by our local seller, but at least the article can help you figure out the fact and why Pine Trail is not much faster than the first Atom.

Amazing, Intel has crossed another huge milestone by stuffing up to 48 cores into one HCIP that will be used as SCC or what we known as Single Chip Cloud computer. According to Intel, This massive chip concept will cost power as much as two household light bulbs (though they don’t actually stated the light bulb’s size).

For the kick start to perfecting this chip concept, Intel will send 100 of this prototype processors to researchers next year 2010. Intel’s goals in the future is to produce system (laptops) with processing capability of having a “vision” in the same way a human can see objects and motion as it happens and with high accuracy.

“With a chip like this, you could imagine a cloud datacenter of the future which will be an order of magnitude more energy efficient than what exists today, saving significant resources on space and power costs,” said Justin Rattner, head of Intel Labs and Intel’s Chief Technology Officer. “Over time, I expect these advanced concepts to find their way into mainstream devices, just as advanced automotive technology such as electronic engine control, air bags and anti-lock braking eventually found their way into all cars.”

Though there is no news when we at consumer level could enjoy 48-core processor while the Quad Core model is still expensive, but it’s certainly an interesting stuff to see how far our technology could be developed.

Finally, the era of 32nm processor has come. Intel has fully listed their upcoming 32nm processors (mainly Core i5 and Core i3) along with the reasonable pricing factor. The processor will be launched on 2010, where you will get to see 6 new series from Core i3 to Core i5. Here is the detail of this so called ‘Clarkdale’ family:

According to the source, the Core i5 661 model is likely a store typo. There is no way (for now) the price to be set on €175.90 because this model has the highest-cloaked setting. The estimation for this model is about €200 or above depend on the merchant who sell it.

All of the processors (Core i3 and i5) has hyper-threading technology to handle up to 4 threads simultaneously. The processor also have 4MB of L3 cache, and dual channel DDR3-1333 memory controller.

The great news for AMD CPU overclocker or enthusiast. Some folks have managed to break the world’s fastest clock speed for Desktop PC’s CPU at 7GHz using AMD’s Phenom II processor. This is *very fast, consider 5Ghz is the usual overclocked CPU speed that have been accomplished by several experts OC-er. Now, 7Ghz was able to achieve largely thanks to the liquid helium cooling material that could hold the AMD Phenom II temperature and make it cooler. This impressive mod and overclocking result has been recorded and made into a movie clip which you can watch it below:

This rumor is declined by Intel but Gigabyte has clearing stating that Gulftown as Core i9 is disallowed in their latest ‘Beats Me If You Dare’ competition.

Intel Gulftown uses LGA1366 socket, so probably user will have no hard time upgrading their processor if they have one of the modern motherboard. According to the discussion, this Six-Core CPU is going to cost you about $1,500+ a pop, but there is no news yet on the performance and what is the different between Core i9 and the previous i-series.

This is not really the usual deal article that we posted on our deal section. But it’s kind of price drop announced by AMD saying they will sold their AMD Quad Core CPU, to be exactly the Athlon II X4 for $99 only. This is such a nice treat by AMD for those who build PC by their own.

According to Gadgetell, the price is absolutely the lowest, $50 cheaper that Intel’s Core 2 Quad Q8200. If you have yourself an AMD system, perhaps this is a great change to upgrade your PC so you can actually run Windows 7 next month.
