Epson Artisan 835 Review – One Of The Best All-in-One Wireless Printer
One of the best all-in-one Epson printers, the Epson Artisan 810 has been discontinued by the factory a moment ago. This printer is pretty hot because it has so many features that users can enjoy without spending more money, while the output quality is top notch. However, it’s sad that you can’t buy it anymore as lots of retailers have zero stock for this item.
As the substitution, Epson has replaced Artisan 810 with a new variant all-in-one wireless printer – The Artisan 835 that inherited all of the Artisan 810′s features and some more added functionality.
Epson Artisan 835 is one of the best all-in-one printer, or I should called it the ‘Gems’ in inkjet all-in-one printer’s market. It’s not only easy to use, it has come with amazing 7.8-inch touchscreen panel that make things easier. It has been highly rated at Amazon and several online retailers, while at least hundreds of reviewers giving this printer a thumb up and commenting about their satisfactions.
Of course, to check its qualification, we usually use some kind of checklist to see whether the printer is good enough and whether it meets our criteria/needs. Basically, you will have to ask yourself a few questions and find the technology that you need without spending more. You should first:
- Decide where to use it
- Check on the Printing Technology – The speed decide it all
- Check on the scanner – resolution is the key, the bigger, the better.
- check on the copier – the speed also important here
- If available, check on the fax machine technology
- also, you can look for additional features like extra USB port or CD Tray
Decide where you are going to use this All-in-One Printer
It’s very important that you decide where you are going to use the printer. It’s would be a mess if you want to use it on your home while the all-in-one printer you get is too complicated and suitable for Office only. Of course, with so many people starting up their home business, getting quality printer for home usage is nothing wrong, it’s just you don’t have to waste innocence money for the features that you are not going to use for your entire life.
It’s also important to decide where you are going to place the printer. If your workspace is too narrow and small, it’s insane that you decide to get a large inkjet all-in one printer while you only have a space for a small inkjet printer.
Epson 835 is measuring at 18.3-inch x 25.8-inch x 7.8-inch (W x D x H) in printing mode and 18.3-inch x 18.0-inch x 7.8-inch while in storage mode. It has quite a depth to share, but the wide is about as large as a Logitech gaming keyboard only. You should check if your workspace allow such a dimension or not.
As for the interface, Epson Artisan 835 all-in-one printer is suitable for both office and home usage thanks to the user-friendly interface and intuitive Smart 7.8-inch touchscreen display located at the front of the printer. The touchscreen panel will not pick up any fingerprint, and it is super easy to select menus and type in phone number.
Since Artisan 835 is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS, you don’t really have to worry about what kind of system you have on your computer. It supports Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows XP x64 and Windows 2000. For Mac OS, Artisan 835 support OS X 10.3.9, 10.4.11, 10.5.x and 10.6.x.
The Printing Technology
The printing speeds of an all-in-one printer decide it all. If it’s slow, you job is going to be done slower. However, Epson Artisan has been well known of its world’s fastest 4-inch x 6-inch photo printer that deliver speed without compromise in less than 10 seconds. Not only on photos, Epson Artisan 835 also printing document pretty fast with about 9 to 10 pages per minutes in both color or black mode.
This wireless printer support maximum printing resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi, has small 1.5 picoliters of ink droplet size and Advanced MicroPiezo 6-color inkjet printing with DX5 technology. What this feature does is offering smoothest gradation and grain free photo quality, even on large photo.
The next great thing is that Epson Artisan 835 has come with 6 individual ink cartridges, which included Black, Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta and Yellow. The printed photos are dried instantly, leaving no stain in your fingers and the photo is capable of sustaining up to 200-year storage in album storage! I hope I can live up that long.
Since the ink cartridges are individually placed into the printer, you can actually switch them per color without the have to replace the entire group of ink cartridges. That way you can save more money by replace only the color you need.
Next is network connectivity. Epson Artisan 835 all-in-one printer is featuring both Ethernet and WiFi connectivity all in one. So you get to choose which option suit you best. If you want to print something from one room while you are at another, the WiFi connection is your best choice to solve cabling hassle.
This wireless printer support up to 802.11n, which is the latest and fastest WiFi connectivity to date. However, you can still link this wireless printer to your network with ease on LAN cable. The setup of both WiFi and LAN connection has been made easy and user-friendly with Epson’s easy setup guide.
In the act to save more trees from meeting their Creator, Epson has also included a useful automatic paper feeder with duplex two sided printing to save about 50% of paper supply. The Automatic paper feeder can supply up to 30-page continuous printing, copying and faxing. This feature is quite nice to save you time on loading new paper to the tray. Also, unlike ordinary printer, Epson Artisan 835 has nice dual paper trays hidden right under the belt where you can simply pull it out to refill papers once it has emptied, and push it in to hide the trays from dust or dirt. Also you can print up to 20 pages in one sheet of paper if you really want to save more papers, without using application like FinePrint.
Epson Artisan 835 Scanner Technology
What I would check on the scanner is the real optical resolution value, not the interpolated resolution that gives nothing but larger scanned result with no details added.
Technically speaking, Epson Artisan 835 has supported optical resolution of 4800 dpi and 48-bit color depth. However, it can be interpolated to the maximum 9600 x 9600 dpi when needed. Interpolated results are often fuzzier and it’s only an enlargement of 4800 dpi. You don’t get a sharper result unless you are expert in photoshopping.
As for the color depth, according to what I’ve read in some source, 48-bit color depth scanner can recognize up to 281 trillion of colors. I know it’s a bit extreme, but you only have to know that this all-in-one printer can recognize colors more than our eyes can recognize.
When coming to the copier, the scanning take a little bit role while the printing take another important role. Your page will be scanned at first, and then the data transmitted to the printer for printing. It takes two phases to get the job done for the first print; while the second continuous copying on the same document will be faster (the data has been cached). In this case, according to the statistic report, Epson Artisan 835 can copy about 38cpm (page per minute) on both black and color mode.
While copying, Artisan 835 wireless printer has been equipped with a smart technology where it can automatically remove any blurred background from text, auto fit to page, can copy directly to CDs or DVDs, copy documents directly to PDF, auto color restoration for faded photos, 2 sided copy with duplexer and more.
Epson Artisan 835 all-in-one printer can copy on legal paper (8.5-inch x 14-inch) by using the help of Auto document feeder, and can copy up to 99 pages automatically without PC. It also support several ordinary paper sizes, including A4, A6, can print borderless photos, direct printing to CD/DVD and support wide range of paper types.
The Fax Machine
Not every all-in-one printer has a fax functionality. But luckily, this premium Epson Artisan 835 wireless printer has this function intact. Not only there as a bonus feature, the fax machine on Artisan 835 is quite impressive. The fax has supported both black-white and color faxing and Artisan 835 can fax one document in just 3 seconds on a 33.6Kbps connection!
No more stupid wait in front of the fax machine if you are going to use this All-in-one wireless printer for your office. Even better, to speed things up, Epson has included a built-in memory that can hold up to 180 pages, and there is also a speed dials function that let you store up to 60 numbers!
Though the touchscreen panel doesn’t pick up fingerprint, the glossy black case of Epson Artisan 835 do. Well, in fact all glossy gadget is somehow fingerprint magnet. This wireless printer is no exception. However, luckily the glossy part is only the half top part and you will unlikely to notice anything unless you observe at the close range.
For extra support, Epson has included one USB 2.0 port and a 21-in-1 memory card reader at the lower right side of the printer. The card reader can almost read any popular type of memory cards that you have, and the USB 2.0 port will be flash drive friendly and external HDD friendly in most case.
Especially the USB port, you can also use this port to recharge your USB devices like PMP, MP3 players or smartphone, or even your iPhone and iPad if you have got the adapter to use.
More stuff that you will get in the box is a bundle of software for printing and other utilities. You will get the printer driver, Epson Print CD, Web to Page printing, Epson Scan software and the scanner drivers and ArcSoft Print Creations software.
Where to find this Epson Artisan 835 Printer?
There are handful of online retailers selling this wireless printer. We found out that Amazon has the best deal for this item and most likely you will get a top notch support and free shipping, too. As for the pricing, you shouldn’t pay over $200 if you are going to get it elsewhere. The manufacturer has recently dropped the price with instant $100 rebate, so you should expect to pay at most $200 (excluding tax and shipping fee).

Any Complaint On Artisan 835?
Yes, of course. There are some complaint that you should read about and it’s all about the paper thickness problem and ink price. It seems this Artisan 835 all-in-one printer is unable to accept thicker (64 lb) sheets, and the ink price is pretty high for per cartridge replacement. It could be troubleshoot with using ordinary paper, and find alternative to the printer ink by using cheaper third party ink (but it’s not recommended though).
More problem that you will face is the printer will sometimes spits out several blank sheets when printing because the failure of automatic paper feeder. If you are going to find printer for heavy document printing, then we suggest to look elsewhere. Artisan 835 is a magnificent photo printer, scanner, copier and fax, but not a printer for super heavy document printing tasks.
Epson Artisan 835 all-in-one printer is currently on sale at Amazon for $196.99. But it’s subject to change without prior notification. However, your limit is to pay $200 at most (excluding tax and shipping fee). If you have found elsewhere with higher price, I suggest not to get one because you will only pay more for something that worth less.
