Adding extra battery life to iPad 2 is getting easier. You may have seen a power case that add a little thickness to iPad 2 but gives exactly the double of battery life, but I’m not going to talk about that in this article. What we have found recently at Brando is a new battery accessory for iPad 2 that is even easier to use than using a special case. Not only it is very thin at 6mm only, the battery is said to be able to add about 5 hours of extra battery life on a single charge through the AC outlet/USB outlet.

This is the Anytone Smart Cover Power, an extra slim battery brick that you can stick it to your smart cover yet it won’t disturb the smart cover functionality at all. The battery containing 3,000mAh of battery cell, has battery indicator and on/off switch. This Anytone Smart Cover Power is rechargeable via miniUSB.

By looking at the arrangement in the picture above, I guess it’s possible to add another three Anytone Smart Cover Power which should end up with twenty hours of extra operation time.

Researchers at Rice University has created a super small battery that is about six time thinner than a bacterium, or about 60,000 times smaller than an AAA battery. This is an amazing breakthrough as it has opened the door to a brand new world. Though I’m not sure how long this type battery can last, but I believe the researchers have thought about it too. It has made the innovation of micro-size devices (perhaps some kind of spy robot/flies) possible and a lot more possibility to create very small device that could be properly powered with this smallest battery.

This World’s smallest battery is actually a cross between a battery and super capacitor technology. The researchers even goes further describing:

“The idea here is to fabricate nanowire energy storage devices with ultrathin separation between the electrodes,” said Arava Leela Mohana Reddy, a research scientist at Rice and co-author of the paper. “This affects the electrochemical behavior of the device. Our devices could be a very useful tool to probe nanoscale phenomenon.”

Imagine that you can have your own super stealth flies robot like in the G-Force movie. That would be cool (or dangerous) as everyone can be the secret agent in the neighborhood!

Designers Yeon Kyeong Hwang and Mieong Ho Kang have proposed an unique battery concept for those who’ve always run in short of battery life. Their Charge Battery concept is an interesting battery with two parts in one, and there is a winding mechanism at the lower part where you can twist it up to recharge the battery.

It sounds pretty cool for eco-living as we have no need to buy more battery that will end up in the wasteland. However, it’s too good to be true that such a battery will exist.. Even if this product is exist later in the future, users might tend to get annoyed because I believe a few twists around the battery won’t give you any promising energy that your battery-hungry device need. You probably have to get some fingers and wrists workout, again and again before you can fully recharge the battery…

Designer Wonchul Hwang has showcased his AA USB Battery Concept at YankoDesign as one of the unique AA battery with a retractable USB connector at the other end. Which mean, when the juice has run out you can easily recharge it via any USB port on your PC, USB hub, laptop or power outlet. Also, it’s also functional as a media storage where you can store data into the battery through the USB connector.

It’s sound like a great idea, but too bad it’s only a concept at the moment.

Sun-Cat? Weird name, but clever DIY technology. It’s something that no one has ever though off. The idea is to warp a rechargeable batteries with a flexible solar panel like shown in the picture below:

It’s a homemade prototype so you won’t find it elsewhere. Brilliant Idea, I can say. It both save the environment from hazardous liquid and save money on electricity bill. I hope this will become a real stuff, with additional functionality, let’s say a “plug-and-recharge” feature that will compatible with most of the rechargeable battery type.

Finally, there is a company that dare to come up front and claims for the glory of 24 hours non-stop computing laptop on a single charge.

HP recently claiming for this feature for there new EliteBook 6930p, which offers 24 hours operation, but with specific requirement! Oh Okay, I know it’s simply impossible to be able to compute 24 hours in the normal setting of our laptop! Not for now, but for the future I guess… But it’s simply a great breakthrough to see this possibility.

HP will going to “force” you to buy a separated Ultra Capacity Battery and download their latest Intel Graphics and BIOS driver. How about ATI or nVidia Graphic Card? It seems there is no word mentioning about them…

Even futher, HP needs you to configure the laptop system with optional Intel 80 GB SSD drive, HP Illumi-lite LED display and the “Windows XP” OS. Notice I said that it’s XP, not Vista.

So, it’s not compatible with Vista? No, It’s compatible. It’s just the requirement to let HP EliteBook 6930p to live for 24 hours of a single charge.
