Sony has just released a new internal Blu-ray writer codenamed as BWU-500S. This internal blu-ray writer is capable of performing at 12x when writing data to BD-R media disc, and it’s 8x speed when writing to dual layer BD-R media disc. If you ask how fast it can record, this Sony BWU-500S can transfer 25GB into the disc in just 10 minutes, more or less.

This Sony BWU-500S internal BD Writer is intended to substitute all old DVD drive in 5.25 bay on our desktop PC. Of course, anyone would love to make the switch if the pricing is reasonable and affordable.

Although there is no price details mention yet, but it shouldn’t be long we can hear the words about it. But let’s assume it would be above $100 mark which is still quite expensive for now. However, as the extra bonus, Sony have bundled this Sony BWU-500S with one 25GB Sony BD-R blank disc and original copy of Cyberlink Media Suite 8 software.

As for the backward compatibility, This Sony BWU-500S internal blu-ray writer can record standard 4.7GB DVD+/-R discs at up to 16X speeds, 8.5GB DVD+/-R Double/Dual layer at up to 8X, DVD+RW at up to 8X, DVD-RW at up to 6X, CD-R at up to 48X, CD-RW at up to 24X, and support DVD-RAM recording at up to 12X speeds.

Sony BWU-500S internal blu-ray writer is going to be available in this month through authorized distributors, resellers and selected online sites.

The new standard of USB 3.0 has given the chance for Blu-ray writer to speed up their writing and reading speed. Buffalo has just introduced their new blu-ray writer that could write at the speed of 12x for BD-R Single Layer or Double Layer disc. It’s practically 4x faster than the common blu-ray burner.

There are two model revealed, BR3D-12FBS-BK and BR3D-12U3. The first model is still standing on the old standard of SATA interface, while the one that has got the 12x writing speed is the second model.

Buffalo BR3D-12U3 supports write speed up to 12x for BD-R SL/DL, 2x for BD-RE SL/DL, 16x for DVD-R/+R, 8x for DVD-R/+R DL & DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, 40x for CD-R and 24x for CD-RW.

For additional bonus, Buffalo Blu-ray writers has been bundled with CyberLink’s PowerDVD 9, PowerDirector 8 HE, PowerProducer 5, MediaShow 5, Power2Go 6, InstantBurn 5 and PowerBackup 2.

Those two will be released in mid-June, and it will cost $216 and $433 for Buffalo BR3D-12FBS-BK and Buffalo BR3D-12U3, respectively. It’s certainly expensive, if you are just want to watch blu-ray movies with the burner, I’ll suggest to go for PS3 instead.

Finally, the Blu-ray burner speed has been increased by Pioneer. Pioneer presenting their latest blu-ray writer dubbed as BDR-205 has the speed of 12x, 4x faster than the current 8x on a common blu-ray drive.

This step has been taken by Pioneer to help their user shortening the time needed in burning one Blu-ray disc and the drive will cost you about $250 only. Pioneer BDR-205 Blu-ray writer will be available in this October but no idea what is the actual date and which merchant bring it to their shelf.
