I’m not a big fans of skull art, but this skull chair is pretty intriguing for me. Why? Because I saw that the skull is popping out from the chair, especially the forehead even it’s not a 3D skull or something. I can say it’s been cleverly designed to mimicked a perfect skull that beveled into the chair, but thanks to the glossy surface of the chair, I saw a 3D skull popping out. Is it only my eyes that have gone wrong?

Anyway, this skull chair is going to be exhibited in Nouvelle Vague at the French Cultural Centrer – Palazzo Delle Stelline – Corso Magento 63 20123 Milan on 12 to 17 April. If you have chance to get there, please check if the skull is really popping out or not.

It has a slick design, black driven (or white), comfy foamed seat and a seamless docking station for your iPod/iPhone at the right arm. The speaker system I’ve mentioned just now is a 3 way speaker and at the outer side you’ll get a video projector. I’m not sure if the projector could be paired up with our PC or laptop because this cool looking Media Chair is strictly a conceptual gadget design. However, it’s a cool concept that have pretty much sold Jeff from CraziestGadgets to save a room for it in his living room in case it happens to hit the store.

This is the best gadget for countries with regular electricity blackout like mine. It will actually allow me to read my book clearly with the help of a bright reading lamp instead of the short lifespan candle light.

Murakami Rocking Chair will self-powered the lamp that has been installed in the frame by gentle rocking the chair.

Designed by Rochus Jacob, this rocking chair has become another perfect solution for home owner to help prevent global warming. The Murakami rocking chair will generate power through the kinetic energy produced by the gentle rocking motion, and Jacob also used an advanced Nano-Dynamo technology built into the skids of the chair so it can actually self-powering the OLEDs light above the user’s head.

There is also a battery pack stored in the Murakami rocking chair, which means you can rock the chair like crazy in the morning to store up energy, and use it up when the night’s come.

Sheetseat, like the title said is a foldable chair concept with eco-friendly touch. The main material is a 3/4″ thick plywood and perhaps some steel wired is also blended to be the frame so someone can actually sit on it without worrying to break the wood into pieces. Sheetseat is designed by Ufuk Keskin, and it was shown at the IDSA’s Equilateral during New York Design week event.

I’ve been thinking to have such a practical chair, which could be fold up and return just a piece of 3/4″ wood. I might also love the double-duty mosaic folding chair, or perhaps the foldable director chair. However, both of them have no such a simplicity as Sheetseat folding chair. It will eat less spaces even you have bunch of them stack together because it will look just like a pile of wood stacking neatly.

Just a concept though, no word and no idea when this Sheetseat will be released for sale…

It’s actually a fake shadow if you observe carefully. The black shadow is actually the stable leg to hold the weight of the user through the two legs at the front. For the first sight it might seems like a magic chair, but it isn’t. This set of chair will cost you $1,250 a pop, and that’s the scariest thing for me.

Air Ravioli is an eco-friendly chair design by Mario Bellini. Why Eco-friendly? Because all of the Air Ravioli chair is made of recycled materials which absolutely safe for our environment.

By looking at the picture above, you might guess there is nothing special on this Air Ravioli. Well, hold on. Don’t judge them by their appearances. Air Ravioli has more artistic touch + environment friendly that you’ve never imagine. Check out the following picture to figure it out:

Yes, Air Ravioli will glows in the dark and it’s inflatable in the first place. Mario Bellini has allow a good nature blend with the modern lifestyle with the soothing illumination sparking from inside. It’s kind of “one stone two bird” idiom in designing the perfect furniture for our future living.

I was fooled by the appearance of this Messenger Bag. At first, I thought it’s nothing but a laptop bag or school bag. But I was wrong, totally wrong! This stuff is a Director-like Chair that disguised as a messenger bag!

More surprising fact is that the Director’s Chair could even handle weight as heavy as 250lbs. The chair’s frame is made of aluminum and a super lightweight solid steel. Once you folded up, you will get a 4″ thick only messenger bag so you can bring it anywhere and fool everyone to think that you are carrying laptop.

It’s really an interesting mashup between bag and chair. Unfortunately, the price is $129.99 which I consider quite expensive. Well, if you are interested and have some cash to spend, you can buy them from Hammacher now.

I believe you have heard about the bed of nails or needles used by those magicians to show off their magical skill. It looks so hurt to me, and I wouldn’t even want to imagine lying on those. But, how about this new chair the “Screw Chair” created by Revol-Design?

Now that looks interesting! Unlike the Sound Chair, there is no smooth cushioned seat here. However, it also have no sharp edge, and you can virtually sit on this Screw chair comfortably, claimed by the designer. You would never know how’s that “Comfortableness” means until you’ve sat there by your own.

Screw Chair consists of 3,726 black drywall screws arranged neatly in grid lines. Each screw has the sharp end embedded into scraps of Douglas fir wood. Therefore, it won’t hurt your skin directly, and it will allow a good air circulation beneath the seat since the grid arrangement has created enough spaces to remove heat.

Any downside for this Screw Chair? Well, yes. I think there are several downsides such as if you sit and lying on this screw chair without wearing a shirt, you’ll have your back with a bunch of screw marks. Or, the screws will be probably unfriendly with your clothing, especially that wool made type of wear.

Our life has become so compact and will keep becoming more compact and practical in the future. Everything will turns small, mini, portable and mobile. Maybe our future will become like the “City of Ember” Movie, where human size also turns small!

Well, it’s funny to think of the future with most of the thing become so convenience. I guess we need to thanks to designers in this field to keep inventing stuff to assist and easing our life.

Thanks to them too, they now invented a double duty furniture, a chair to be exactly, that could be act as your resting spot or use it at your room divider.

The Mosaic Folding Chair is a statement made by the use of conventional materials in an unconventional manner. Thanks to new methods of tile prefabrication, the seat of the chair, made from mosaic tiles embedded in silicon, can act in both tension and shear supporting the user.

The aluminum frame is designed to fold away to a sliver allowing for not only easy mass manufacturing but also elegance in design.

The latest creation to catch our eye is the ‘Mosaic Folding Chair’ by ODA-Architecture. The frame of the chair is finished with conventional materials like aluminum that not just makes it light in weight but elegant in design as well.

The seat of the chair is made of mosaic tiles embedded in silicon, the latest method used for tile prefabrication, which makes it sturdy as well as comfortable to sit on. When not in use, the chairs can also be folded and lined up as a divider for your room.

Matthew Plummer Fernandez, the one who created this amazing piece of 4D sound wave shape chair claimed that it’s a creation after testing out more than 719 sounds to formed a sound wave that looks like a chair for your peaceful butt resting.

According to Matthew, Sound/Chair is crafted from precise visualization of 3 dimensional object using Volume, time and frequency plot. It’s the exact replication of the sound wave graph, as you can see on the following picture:

Sound/Chair by Matthew Plummer Fernandez

Of course, Matthew can’t design the “exact” sound wave into a chair since the real graph is all torny and sharp! The chair is somehow the smoothed version so you can pick some comfortable seat on this sound/chair.

Sound/Chair is set by Matthew to launch in this September 2008 on London Design Festival with some high price mark or £3950(aroun $7,900).

You know the ‘Bird’s Nest’ in China Right? It’s the other name for the Huge National Stadium in Beijing.

In a far sight, It looks like a sphere of self knitting steels. I guess with this concept, Timothy Schreiber design a lounger that closely represent the bird’ nest.

“The X Lounger is based on a single ray, traced along a periodic double curved surface. It’s close resemblance to China’s Bird’s Nest Stadium is a testament to how smart and functional this design is. Strong yet flexible without looking harsh and man made.”

– by YankoDesign

Comfortable or not, it’s depend on how you sit on this chair. It’s pretty dangerous for a children since there are so many holes that allow their little legs to stuck in the chair. So, a warning is needed if this bird nest chair becomes available for purchase later in the future…
