This type of concept is a long waited one for guys like me. I have no idea how many battery I’ve replaced for my wireless mouse as I’ve used it quite a lot for work and play. It’s both expensive if you think it carefully when comparing to a casual wired mouse, and not really-earth friendly as battery is a dangerous stuff for the Mother Earth, too!

With this concept – the Leaf Wireless Kinetic Mouse, I can both save money and safe the earth from hazardous stuffs like an alkaline battery. The concept is stating that the Leaf Wireless Kinetic Mouse is capable of self-powering by collecting energy from the movement made by users. There is a triangle design with three roller balls that will move as we move the mouse around, which then convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.

The concept promises that user will never have to replace the battery again if they are using Leaf Wireless Kinetic mouse. It sounds pretty cool for me, but no really understand how the triangle self-powered system will work in real life.

I’m sincerely hope that such kind of mouse will be produce soon (or ASAP) because it’s not only good for the environment, it also enhanced the quality of the users. The mouse is not only eco-friendly and green, but it’s also very modern, futuristic and slimy. If it’s released next year (let’s hope so) for $100, I’m the first to grab it for sure.

Devraj Bhadra has come up with a nice idea of cable organizer called “ISI Desk Clamp” which is simple yet effective in organizing plugs and cable.

Probably inspired by the binder clip cable organizer, ISI Desk clamp is shaping like a binder clip without the steel handle. It has several notches where you can slip in cable and hand the cable head on the ISI Desk clamp.

Of course, it has a downside where you should find a desk with edge for clip on. If the desk don’t have any edge or the edges are to thick, ISI desk clamp cable clip will not work.

Another downside is that this stuff is just a concept, if you want something similar, use your binder clip instead. It can hold cable as well!

There is a new concept from YankoDesign that looks pretty cool. It’s a pen technology, where make turning your scribes into digital version as easy as possible. The pen concept is called “Recorder Pen“, according to the designer, the pen will have a handful of interesting features. What the designer have revealed is the built-in laser locator, it has processor and a USB flash drive as well at the other side of the pen where you can remove it easily to transfer the digital version of your scribes into your PC.

It also capable of connecting to your system (or smartphones) via bluetooth connectivity. Which mean it might be able to work with your tablet as well when a proper app have been created for it.

Sadly, no news about when this concept will hit the production stage. For now, you could actually enjoy similar smart pen like LiveScribe Pulse Pen or Wacom Inkling Pen, minus the cool laser locator and easy-to-remove USB flash drive.

I’m absolutely agree on idea saying that our computer desk is too boring and fully stuff with lifeless form of devices (mouse, speaker, flash drive, smartphone, etc.) Although there is nothing wrong with it, but decor it up with something cute or fun is pretty useful to release stresses while on the work space.

Here, a clever twist of design of USB Hub and Flash drive by WePlayGod that resemble a happy mother pig (USB Hub) and three little pigs (USB flash drive) with retractable USB connector.

The mother is in the position of ready to breastfeed her children, and the children have an open mouth ready to taste the love of their mother.

This Pig Buddies is a concept design at the moment, but I would like to see them appear in the market. However, I guess I will not need another USB 2.0 Hub anymore. It would be great if WePlayGod could make it as the modern breastfeeding mom that support USB 3.0 superspeed standard, while the kids are USB 3.0 flash drive instead of the using USB 2.0 interface.

A concept that could help our life do not have to be an exceptional or amazing concept. The idea could be a very small one, but in fact it can have an extraordinary effect when implemented into our life, especially to the tools that we commonly use everyday.

There is an amazing helpful concept have been created ​​by some Korean people named: Suhyun Yoo, Jinwoo Kim and Chae Eunah called “Donut Plug Socket”, which will ease our life from searching for holes to plug in.

This concept is actually pretty smart despite of its simple looking. I believed that you’ve had time where you are troubled when trying to plug prongs into the socket that is out of the reach or where we can’t actually see the the holes alignment properly.

You will need to guessing around, trying hard to plug the prongs into the hole where you can’t see them. However, with Donut Plug Socket, the only thing you need to know is where the outlet is. The black circle that you see on the concept picture above is actually the ‘hole’ that will allow you to plug the plug in any direction of your liking. Smart!

Two designers Gong Huachao and Wang Hui has come up with a concept design similar to Magic Numpad where it will turn a touchpad surface into a numpad without having to use additional external USB numpad for our laptop or Macbook.

This design was called Numpad Film, where it’s coming with a thin transparent layer that you can stick it onto your laptop or Macbook tracking pad and turn it directly into a numpad with some built-in application.

The sticker has marking like a numpad where once you’ve activated the application, certain spot on the tracking pad will be associated to the picture on the plastic layer. It looks like nice piece of concept idea, but well… it’s still a concept anyway. However, I believe it could be implemented immediately, as soon as they’ve developed the application.

Quite a few laptops try and include a numberpad into the system but for those few who can’t incorporate it, here is an easy solution! Number Pad Film for Touchpad is this sticker and program combo that turns your regular touchpad into a makeshift number pad. Install the program and select the hotkeys and you are ready to go. I think it’s quite a clever idea, I’ll sign up for one!

WHILL is a new concept that will turn any average wheelchair into an electric vehicle so that paralyzed people could enjoy a faster movement without sweating and hands workout. This electric wheelchair attachment has a 24-bolt motor that will take power from the built-in lithium-ion battery pack.

People with feet-disability when sat on a wheelchair with WHILL installed could enjoy a nice 12.5mph speed for about 19 miles / 30km. The battery could be recharged and each full recharge would only take about 2 hours.

WHILL looks like an over-ear headphone by design, with the two hubs clamps onto the wheelchair’s wheels to motorized it, while they are connected with a curved control arm where user can use to steers by leaning to the direction they want. According to Tecca, it much like driving a Segway vehicle.

Currently, this WHILL Electric wheelchair attachment is just a prototype. So we don’t have the idea when you can get one for your family who’ve got disability.

What an octopus has to do with an Earbuds? Well, According to Donghee Suh, it appears that his concept was inspired by the suction cup on Octopus’ tentacle. Octopus Earbuds is using some kind of integrated suction cups with the ear tips, so that you can use it to stick on a flat surface like the iPhone rearplate or touchscreen area to manage the cable without the help of additional cable manager.

The Octopus earbuds are fitted with a silicon flap, which retract to become an impromptu suction cup. This ways you can easily wrap the cord around your phone/device and hook on the earbuds to the screen, in a neat fashion.

It’s really a simple solution that should have been produced since long time ago. Glad that Donghee Suh, the red dot design concept winning has brought this idea up to the surface. Hopefully, we can start getting this type of earbuds in the upcoming years.

Samsung is really going nuts with their futuristic gadget and designs. Previously we have seen their flexible phone – The Galaxy Skin, now they’ve got further with their flexible-craziness with their latest concept video on something that is really intriguing!

From that image above, you can see how Samsung is trying to design the future with their crazy transparent display. The idea is really amazing on how you can fold it around without distorting the display, and it could even pop out like a 3D holographic display.

I should tell you that it is not a dream anymore, or something from the sci-fi movie. Today’s technology has allow developers to develop something like what you’ve seen in the video above. The only problem now is the cost factor. It would cost a fortune to create something like this, and it wouldn’t hit the consumer-market any sooner as it will be filtered by the higher authority for their military uses first.

I really like the instant language translator, It allow many possibility to do business with foreigners without first to learn their language!

Efi Space Divider is like a big lamp shade. All you have to do is to pull the handle to lower it down to your body so people will not disturb you unless it’s important.

Efi is the result of an important user study, where I became conscious of today’s troubles that employees are dealing with in “open space” offices. It consists of a connected space divider which enables office employees to isolate themselves when they need to focus. Lowering down the ring enables them to isolate from physical noise (visual and phonic) but also from digital noise by filtering data receipt (e-mails, phone calls, instant messages…)

Most people who love cool design will love this Icarus OLED light concept when they have seen it. Icarus OLED light is designed by clever Korean – Sewon Oh, Yonggu Do and Minseon Kim. The idea is to put a futuristic touch to the usual ceiling lamp light, turning the lamp into something that could be configured to illuminate in a rhythmic dance.

Icarus OLED light come with seven separated light space, where all of them can be folded and unfolded like the following picture has suggested.

Of course, the folding serve no purpose at all. It’s just a design where it allow user to adjust the position of the ‘wings’ freely. I’m sure when it has hit the manufacturing stage, this Icarus OLED light will be an expensive stuff.

Instead of using the usual exit mark on your store or apartment, you might want to check out this cool design by Yuki Matsueda. It’s a 3D object design that make the running man in the “Exit” picture to pop out like running out from the door. It’s achieved by using some kind of transparent glass to let the magic happen. The transparent glass is holding the running man in the mid-air, as if it’s floating when you have switch the light off.

Of course, this 3D Exit is not the only art design done by Yuki. You can browse through all of his magnificent works over at Yuki-Matsueda.com. I like the very much, but sadly I can’t find the buy button for them.

Unlike any grand piano you would found in the music instrument store that is made of wood, heavy, and expensive, this concept of Foldable Digital Grand Piano by Korean designers (Yun Jin-yeong and Jeong Seong-hun) is actually quite portable and should be cheaper.

From the look above, it doesn’t show you how portable the piano is. However, the following picture will show you the condition when the grand piano is in folded position.

See? Both the piano and the chair can be folded into a thin piece of layer that would save a lot of space for delivery process or storing. Of course, we are unable to ensure that the sound produced by this digital grand piano is better than the original one that uses real strings. But at least it should become a nice and affordable solution for the budget-strict musicians who can’t afford the expensive wood-made grand piano.

However, it’s sad because this foldable digital grand piano is just a concept for a moment.

A new concept design called Luminous Flashlight has been created by a designer called Omer Deutsch for Adventurers who love to camp in the wild. The Luminous flashlight is a flashlight with a built-in LED lamp inside the core where you can reveal it to light up the entire area. Since it’s using LED technology, you can expect this Luminous Flashlight to have a good battery life per single charge or battery replacement. It uses 2 pieces of AA battery to power up. Sadly, they should have to equip it with a solar panel as well for addition power source.

Both flashlight mode and LED Lamp mode have their own dedicated control switch. Which mean you can control them separately without messing with each other. Sadly, there is no further details on this concept design. It certainly looks like an interesting flashlight to have, but no idea when such thing would be manufactured.

Yet another cool looking concept design for Tokyoflash watch. They’ve been well known of their weird and alien-tech watch designs, despite of the difficulty of reading the time. Really, I’m not sure why people want to have a watch that is hard to read. Is it being stylish really matter much? Well, I’m not in this group. I would rather have something simple so I don’t have to make life difficult.

However, not all Tokyoflash watch designs are complicated. For example, their Kisai 3D Unlimited is easy to read, and the latest Tokyoflash Plasma Activated watch concept is also one of the many concept that require no special math skill to count the time.

Tokyoflash Plasma Activated Watch concept is quite simple because it comes with an analog watch design with red hemisphere indicating the hour, and blue hemisphere showing the minutes. As far as the alien-tech in this watch, the surface of the clock is actually sensitive to touch. Once you’ve touched it, Plasma Activated watch will sparks and shoot a laser-like ray to your finger from the two hemisphere.

Everyone that love challenges and adventures knows how important a flashlight is, especially when exploring the unknown cave or forest. Flashlight is critical because it can provide us with a great view of what’s up ahead, and some of them even can be used as a fighting tool.

However, that’s not what Junwon Yang has with his design of Emergency Flashlight. His design is actually for those who found themselves inside a troublesome situation where the group of people haven’t properly armed with adequate flashlight.

This Emergency flashlight design has double illumination, means not only the scout can see clearly upfront, the flashlight also light up the ground so that everyone following the guide could see the road clearly.

There is a slanted lamps at the other end of the flashlight, pointing 45-degree to the ground. I see a great idea here, but still wish that people would properly armed themselves with emergency tools before entering any dangerous spot.

Dominic Wilcox has presented an interesting idea to the “Object Abuse” exhibition where the challenge was to take any casual objects and remake them to create an entirely new item by using as little as additional materials as possible.

He called it the “Paint Brush Coat Hooks”, as he has re-purposed a real paint brush into a coat hook by hardening the brush tip. This is certainly a great idea as we often found our brush got hardened if we forgot the wash te paint out of the brush completely.

By using this idea, Dominic Wilcox has turn it into a nice and unique looking coat hooks (or anything you want to hook on like shirt, jeans, or even other things like big canvas or else).

He admitted that he has gone through a bit of trials and errors before he made up this coat hooks. Anyway, you can take a look more description and photos at this sketchbook website.

A designer from Ukraine Vasiliy Butentko has come up with an interesting glass storage called the “Slice Glass”. I’m fans of unique gadget that has more than one function.

Beside storing your favorite beverages, Slice Glass can be used as a decoration as it has a cool slanted base. I would fill it with colored sands or perhaps other decorative elements to make it more a container/jar for decoration instead of filling it with juice.

Let’s see what the designer have to say:

The concept that combines the simplicity of form and dynamics of a certain “falling body” created by the cutting plane. When filling a liquid form starts to”play” for the unusual distribution of content, unusual for everyday look. The same concept is inherent functionality: a hollow shape with two sides, which allows its use as a standard position and the upside.

I’ve been quite a fans of Espresso machines as of late, not only because they are great, but it’s also one kind of lifestyle. When reviewing these espresso machines, I’ve been always looking up to their design after I’ve confirmed they’ve passed all of my criteria of a great espresso maker because design can be a critical factor for my kitchen if I’m going to show it to my friends.

Of course, not everyone love this idea. If you are the type that love to be the unique guy of the block, you might want to check out this cool concrete espresso machine called Espresso Solo made by a group of people whose trying to find the harmony behind the concrete and fine metal parts.

There is no info on what type/model of Lavazza espresso machine that they are using. The coffee machine is capable of throwing a short and long shot of espresso only, so It shouldn’t be the type that is hyper expensive.

My ‘espresso solo’ project is a conceptual project. Called Espresso Solo, the conceptual product features metal working parts and a concrete case. The espresso machine makes only espresso: short and long. The design process begun in choosing the material: I choose concrete. I had a vision: concrete in the kitchen, not only as a wall or decorative part, I wanted it to be a desirable consumer product. The contrast between the roughness, massiveness and hardness of the concrete and the fine metal parts, which are dealing with the coffee preparation process, was very challenging and interesting for me.

It certainly looks unique if you have a room design that suit the concrete style. This conceptual project is not for sale, sadly. However, you might want to test your luck contacting the owner to see if they are willing to sell it to you or not.

Polish designer Stanisław Płoski has come up with an eco-friendly bike that uses plywood as the main frame of the bike. While personally I’m not sure how strong this plywood can be, but this idea of plywood bike sounds fresh and new. According to the designer, the plywood frame was created with laminated veneer strips, curved in a manner that could hold the bike on the both lower and upper frame.

Based on the characteristic of a plywood, this material could provide an unique biking experience as it’s more flexible, can absorb shocks, light and strong.

“The frame utilises natural properties of plywood – a natural composite material that is light, strong, and absorbs vibrations. Geometry of the bike ensures a relaxed riding position and lets the user experience the pure pleasure of cycling. Components were selected with simplicity and easy maintenance in mind.”

Though I’m worrying about the durability of this bike. Will it become the food of termites if we store it outside the house?
