It seems the dream of Canova Dual Touch Screen Laptop is going to come true as ASUS is planning to launch one. However, instead of a laptop, ASUS want it to be the coolest and cheapest digital reader where you can use it for browsing and reading ebook in full color manner.

The Digital Reader will have dual touchscreen displays and foldable spine which allow you to fold it and use the digital media reader as a tablet PC. The most surprising fact is, the price will remain low at just £100 a pop, which will eventually shake up the ebook world and challenging the current digital reader market.

If this ASUS Digital reader happen to hit the market in this Christmas, I guess Kindle and other ebook reader will have to move aside. But don’t forget about TechCrunch’s CrunchPad which also has the similar functionalities. However, I assume ASUS will have an easy fight if the price mark is really below £100.

If you remember, we have covered this nice looking Cool-er eBook reader a month ago with the availability in May with price tag of $250. Yes, it seems you can now purchase this colorful cool-er ebook reader with the same pricing and you can choose from 8 color series starting from Ruby Red, Cool Pink, Hot Pink, Blue Sky, Black Jack, Silver Shine, Racing Green and Vivid Violet.

The COOL-ER uses E InkR, a new technology that gives you a screen with a “like paper” display, replicating the experience of reading a book. Using power only for “page turns” means that a single charge lasts for 8000 pages and unlike a book, the electronic display allows you to change the text size to suit you!

This will become a good rival with Amazon Kindle 2 which is priced at $359. Those who haven’t save enough budget to own a Kindle 2 can now switch their attention to this Cool-er e-book reader that practically 100 bucks cheaper.

Amazon announced that they are going to have a press conference on Feb 9 at Morgan Library and Museum in Manhattan about the pre-release of Amazon Kindle version 2.

Yep, that’s a rumor but still a good news for those who haven’t get a hold of Kindle as your personal e-reader. And it seems you can’t make any order of the current version of Kindle even you head to Amazon.com:

Your order is expected to be delivered next 4-6 weeks. I guess the one you’ll get will be the version two. But there still no further information about it.

Kindle is a great book reader that allows you to download new books through amazon whisper technology (EVDO) or access to whole lot of media such as newspaper, magazine and books (there are 250K of them now). You also can access to your favorite blogs with Kindle.

The new version is expected to be able to fix the existing bugs, such as the accidental page turns (reported by BGR).

The new version is having a body remake as well. It’s now come in a longer dimension, thinner, and getting a USB-interface treatment as well. Which mean the Kindle 2 will need no more separate charger to power up and recharge the battery for portable uses.

(via CrunchGear)

UPDATE: I found Alibaba.com is selling Amazon Kindle 2 right now. I’m not sure if it’s fake or not. But buying from the external source other than Amazon.com is pretty risky. I recommend you to not making any purchase before hearing the official news from Amazon.

Again, a new Digital Reader has born to the stream of digital devices. Reading books nowadays has turned easy thanks to the invention of these type of digital electronic book. The first one I knew about is the Amazon Kindle and later the Cybook from Bookeen. Of course with their Big Boy brand, It could really easily knockout its competition.

But it doesn’t mean Kindle will be the king, since Kindles is lack of one feature – the touch screen functionality!

iRex Digital Reader

Yes, iRex spotted that weakness and now this Dinosaur-like iRex trying to destroy the competition with their newest Digital reader by offering much more delicious features for their user.

The touch screen is an absolute must-have feature, and it also accompanied by other marvelous wireless technology such as Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth and 3G for wider and stronger internet access for online reading.

Of course, they are not in the same package and you can choose what type of technology that you want to come with your new iRex. from the basic (no touch screen, Wi-Fi, or 3G) is only retailing for $649, touch screen only – $749, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G – $849.

Unfortunately, iRex is still not a perfect hardware although it have so many great features. there are some bugs on this new digital reader (read the story at Teleread). Though I personally believe iRex will become a great stuff for e-booker, it’s way too expensive (Kindle’s in only $359!) for just because of the touch screen or the wireless technology.

(found iRex at TechFresh)
