Love camping in the wild? Here is a new handy gadget that you might want to check it out. It’s called the BioLite CampStove, a portable stove that come with an unique heat-activated charging solution that you can use it for either lighting up your surrounding with USB LED light or charging your smartphone.

“Open wood fires are inefficient, wasting potential energy and creating toxic smoke due to incomplete combustion. Carefully designed stoves that use fans to blow air into the fire can dramatically improve combustion. However, such stoves require small amounts of electricity to power their fans and most people who cook on wood are without grid or battery access.

BioLite stoves solve this problem by converting a fraction of the fire’s thermal energy into electricity to power our combustion improvement system. Excess electricity is made available to users for charging small electronic devices such as mobile phones, LED lights, GPS and many others.”

BioLite Stove require no fuel at all but twigs that you can find it on the road or beneath the trees. Because it can charge your gadgets, you can also boil water, cook egg, noodles or anything else by using the fire on top of the BioLite. It also capable of burns pine cones, pellets and other biomass if no twigs available.

Here is the photo taken from the official site:

This is the first time I hear about a wireless mouse without the need of a battery to work. Genius recently introduced their Battery-Free eco-friendly wireless mouse called DX Eco. This DX Eco Battery-Free BlueEye mouse is using some kind of built-in gold capacitor to power up the entire mouse, and the beauty of this capacitor is that it can be quicky recharged in 3 minutes for about 100,000 times until it wear off.

DX Eco Eco-friendly battery-free blueEye mouse is featuring 1,600 DPI optical sensor, using 2.4GH wireless technology, with up to 15 meters of wireless range. It also has a special flying scroll wheel, hot keys and rubber insert. Sadly, we have no idea on how long that 3-minute recharge could last, it could be just a few hours or longest at a few days. But it’s a nice idea that we don’t have to wait to long for recharging, and no need to buy battery for it.

The Genius DX Eco wireless battery-free mouse is priced at 45 Euro ($61.77), but we have no idea when it will hit the US shores.

Hacoa Play Mouse is a lovely eco-friendly mouse that looks like a doll with two eyes and one big nose. Apart from its loveliness, this mouse is made of natural wood, where you can choose to have it in light maple or dark walnut. It does nothing rocket science, connect to your computer and use it like a usual PC mouse, though you might have a little bit problem with the mouse clicks that are rather small.

Hacoa Play Mouse is comaptible with Windows 2000/Me/XP/Vista, Mac OSX 10.3.9 or higher and it’s weighing in 75g (maple) or 70g (walnut) only. Sadly, what might turn you down is the pricing that set high at $189 a pop. If you are green geek who love wood stuff, you have to invest quite a bit to own this eco-friendly product.

Fujitsu, the company that focus on creating PC system and peripherals has introduced the World’s most eco-friendly mouse. The mouse is made with biological renewable compounds like natural resins, lignin and starch. It works just like any plastic mouse that you are currently using at. However, this Fujitsu M440 eco-friendly mouse might be more comfortable when comparing to the non-ecofriendly mouse because of the nature of the materials.

This Fujitsu is using USB 2.0 interface to hook up with your PC. It will be available for $22 when launched in US.

I’ve one inflatable bed that is quite portable for camping, easy to find place to keep it and I love it. That’s why when I saw this Inflatable Sofa / Couch, I’m ready to place my order.

This Inflatable Sofa is using an unique material to built up a place for you to sit comfortably – It’s a recycled paper!

I could never imagine that recycled paper can be used as our couch. Of course, it’s impossible for the paper alone. This Inflatable Recycle paper sofa is having two layers of paper and one layer of elastic plastic on the inside that could hold the air.

According to the product page, both inflating and deflating this sofa only takes seconds count which I think it’s a big time saver.

If you would like to own one (despite of its recycled paper ugliness), you can order it for $590 via Sleekidentity. You will get the metal rack and rubber straps (red or black) for free.

This is the ESCO Sensor Lamp (according to RedFerret), the world’s first CFL bulb that gets a motion sensing features. It will automatically detect movement in its range and turn the light on/off when someone approaches the ‘viewing zone’ of the sensor. This could be a great feature, but it can be also a big downside.

You can’t possibly use this lamp in the reading room where the lamp will only detect any reasonable movement when you flip your pages. If there is no movement detected, the lamp will auto shut down and you’ll be reading in the dark!

However, this Lightbulb with motion sensor is very suitable for use in your patio, or your doorstep where you can find key easily at the night. Just move close to the door and the light will on, and once you’ve enter to your house the light will shut off.

Very practically, and it can continue shining for 8000 hours, or abour 20,000 on/off cycles. This Motion sensing light bulb is going to cst your Price: £15.98 / Euro17.58 / $22.3 USD.

I’m a huge fans of potatoes myself, but I never realize it could be used as a power source in the future. Over at Yissum Research Development Company Ltd. has come up with a new trick to pull energy out of the tasty potatoes. It sounds impossible, but they have really achieved such a goal, where the potatoes can lit up a small bulb showed in the picture.

I have seen power drawn from Citrus, Apple or even water. But a Potato battery could be an interesting. According to the company, the bio-battery is a “solid organic electric battery based upon treated potatoes”. It has to do with some chemical reaction between the enhanced salt bridge of the treated potato tubers and the plate clipping the potatoes batteries.

With this technology, the researchers believes that they’ve found a cost-effective and easy-to-find material to light up the area where electricity is not easily available. However, I have no idea if the potatoes will remain ‘snackable’ after juicing out the enhanced salt.

The latest air conditioner from LG has been equipped with a solar panel where it can power up the air purification process without relying to much on home electricity. Codename as LG F-Q232LASS, the air-con is consider as a hybrid solution, where the solar panel equipped on the outdoor unit can generate about 70 Watts of power (per hour). It’s obviously can save electricity bills, however you cannot expect much saved form it.

It looks like a nice idea, however if the outdoor is installed in the alley with less sunlight, the solar panel could be just a decoration only.

However, Beside it can save power, LG F-Q232LAS Hybrid Air conditioner is also eco-friendly as it emit less CO2 where it can reduce about 200+ kg of CO2 in 10 years of usage. Sounds great, but it’s not available yet. According to the press release, this LG F-Q232LASS hybrid air conditioner will be released on July. No pricing details yet.

Woo Seok Park has designed a high-tech trash can called “BarCode TrashCan” that could automatically separate trashes based on the material or organic factor. According to Woo Seok Park, a trashcan should be smart enough the differentiate waste that could be recycled or non-recyclable to speed up the process of trash classification in the factory. The BarCode TrashCan will scan each trash thrown into the can, and separate them into two storage (it should have two storage inside the trash can.

Pretty a green thought and design, however, it’s unknown on how the scanner will work separating banana from plastic if they have no barcode at all.

Mike Thompson introduced the Latro Lamp, the so called Eco-friendly lamp because its main power source is Algae. Yes, you it’s algae the living thing that power up the lamp residing at the bottom of the jar like lamp.

The energy was extracted from a glass storage of algae because the green plant produces carbon dioxide required by the lamp to light up. Since the algae lives on sunlight, all you have to do is to feed them sunlight everyday and it will produces enough CO2 for the lamp. In case the weather is bad, you can breathe your breath into the Latro Lamp to provide CO2.

Sounds too good to be true, however, let’s hope Mike Thompson can turn this concept into a real thing soon.
