Not a day goes by here at Firebox HQ when we’re not testing out another exciting new sound system. But while many of them knock our socks off, we’re always left with one last lingering question… does it make toast?

Well, we’re pleased to tell you that with the Breville Radio Toaster that answer is now “yes”. Yes this radio makes toast. Or this toaster is a radio. Either way, we’re kicking out the jams.
With all the functions of an FM/AM radio combined with two wide slots and the variable browning functions of a world-class toaster, the future has well and truly arrived. Ah, now if only it made tea as well…

Breville Radio Toaster is available for pre-order at Firebox for £49.99. Get one if you love to hear for the morning news report while toasting your bread.

The retro looking radio recorder from Sony (Sony ICZ-R50) is reported to be available right now in Japan’s market. This radio recorder is a revolutionary device that is jam packed with lots of features like the clear display to show the status, channel and frequency, along with MP3 player functionality and IC voice recorder.

Inside the Sony ICZ-R50 itself has already got 4GB storage space to store recording, however if it’s not enough there is a SD/SDHC card slot that support up to 32GB for expansion.

What’s great is that the radio is pretty small, could be held in hands like a small purse and suitable for emergency situations. Sadly, there is no pricing information on this Sony ICZ-R50 Radio Recorder yet.

You might never heard about Earlyadopters, a company from Korea who create bunch of cool gadgets. Their recent invention is ‘The AUDIO system’, a concept that looks like a strange TV antenna with three bars of irons with different length on each side. According to EarlyAdopter, this AUDIO System concept is an MP3 player, an FM/AM Tuner and a DMB/DAB tuner combo. Depending on which mode to stay, the three bars will have different functions.

As for MP3 Player, the AUDIO system supports 32GB SDHC memory card playback and it has 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting your media player to the back. This concept looks interesting although it has a weird design. The bars might say in the way if you don’t have a spacious area to place this AUDIO system, but it might have some kind of minimalistic design that is suitable for modern house.

Check out this strange and unusual radio concept called MintRadio by Jongchul Kim (obviously, a Korean designer). From the physical views, you will find a white porcelain case with one white button, two holes, 1 LED display, and 4 pendulums hanging in the mid air. The while button is supposed to be the on/off button, the two holes are hosting stereo horn speakers, while the LED display will let you know the frequencies.

The question is, how to switch channel to channel if there is no tuner designed for this purpose? Unlike the Human antenna Carpet Radio where you can step on it to tune the frequency, this MintRadio doesn’t have such a feature. According to JongChul Kim the designer, the pendulums are the channel tuner where you must play with them to tune your channel. Weird, but it’s really an intriguing design that could be sold to the artist who loves unusual stuffs.
