Check out this interesting helicopter that can avoid objects in front of its flight destination. Known as the ArduIMU Quascopter, this DIY Arduino helipcoter is probably the smartest helicopter with obstacles avoidance technology. The helicopter is using nothing but four infrared sensor and one ultra sonic sensor to keep the helicopter from bumping walls or moving objects.

The creators even make the helicopter as a ‘tennis ball’ by fake hitting it left-right because the device can run on the opposite way when the frontal view is block with objects. Check out the video below for more details:

The infrared sensors has a fixed range of 1.5m, so whenever the sensor captured an object that the helicopter should avoid at the range of 1.5m, the engine will be commanded to ‘run away’ to the opposite direction.

Want to make it yourself? You can check out DIY Drones for the details instruction.

I always love the toys from Silverlit, especially their RC toy that is very cool and awesome (such as iWing / iFairy or iBird). Now, Silverlit has just released a better RC toy, 2-in-1, a Helicopters inside a SWAT Truck called “Heli-Mission SWAT Truck“.

RC cars and RC Helicopters are perhaps the best toys around. Thanks to Silverlit you can now play with both together in the form of the Heli-Mission RC SWAT Truck that hides an RC helicopter in the back of it.

– by Matt at Gadget Venue

This Heli-Mission SWAT Truck is the coolest RC toy we’ve met so far. I’m not sure if you would like it or not, but I would get one if I have the spare money to spend. It’s very cool because both RC – the SWAT Truck and Helicopter is controllable. The SWAT Truck has a sirens and headlights and running lights, Full function control and it has an automatic truck door open/close ability.

Once the Heli-Mission SWAT Truck open up, it will turn to Helicopter Mode automatically and the SWAT Truck will stay on the position. The Helicopter have up to 3 channels control, Auto stable and precision speed while floating freely in the air.

Here is the video demonstration:

The Heli-Mission SWAT truck will be available next July and cost around $100.

If you have ever dreamt to stay your days and nights in the sky, Hotelicopter might be at your convenience. Hotelicopter is a HUGE, really huge flying hotel in form of a giant helicopter model from Soviet-made Mil V-12, which are only 2 prototypes available in this world.

The prototypes were modded by Hotelicopter company after purchasing them from Mikhail Leontyevich Mil plant in Panki-Tomilino, Russia in 2004. Up up to the present moment, Hotelicopter company has done enormous of engineering to turn the helicopter into a modern flying hotel which we can enjoy our journey in the sky on this Summer June 26th, 2009!

Hotelicopter features 18 luxuriously-appointed rooms for adrenaline junkies seeking a truly unique and memorable travel experience. Each soundproofed room is equipped with a queen-sized bed, fine linens, a mini-bar, coffee machine, wireless internet access, and all the luxurious appointments you’d expect from a flying five star hotel.

Room service is available one hour after liftoff and prior to landing. The Hotelicopter is due to fly maiden journey this summer(June 26th) with an undisclosed price…

Now that is the problem. No price mention there! Oh I guess it should be around thousands of dollars or perhaps ten thousands dollars! Even so, if you have piles of money to spend, prepare yourself for the following ‘flight schedule’ to enjoy the experience inside this Hotelicopter:

Inaugural Summer Tour – 14 days (Friday, June 26th, 2009 – Friday, July 10th, 2009)

California Tour – 14 days (Friday, July 17th, 2009 to Friday, July 24rd, 2009)

Bay/Jamaica, European Tour – 16 days (Friday, July 31st, 2009 to Sunday, August 16th, 2009)

Any downside? Yes, I guess you can’t check in or check out as you wish as it will have its own schedule to act upon, except there is an emergency case to handle.
