Buffalo Japan has announced new sereis of External HDD called LS-XL. This LS-XL series external HDD is actually a NAS (network attached storage) at the same time, where it has come with three connectivity that has included USB, Firewire and one Gigabit Ethernet port.

Anyway, I like the design of this LS-XL series LAN HDD. It has some type of mesh design with the logo, glossy sideways with piano black color treatment, and a shining blue LED color showing the HDD activity at the side.

However, it looks pretty “chubby” from the side. I doubt you can even bring it on your laptop bag because of the dimension. But it’s not something for carry around anyway. It will sit tight on your desk and you should buy this hard drive only if you are trying to get a simple NAS system.

The Buffalo LS-XL Series LAN external hard drive is going to be available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB models. The cost of Buffalo LS-XL Series is going to be 17,000 Yen ($211), 22,000 Yen ($273), and 28,000 Yen ($348), respectively for each capacity. Expect to see this device to appear in the market in July 2011.

Even though Western Digital has started their venture into the USB 3.0 world using their new Passport Essential, Passport Essential SE and My Book Essential, the company haven’t fully switch their base to the new ground yet. They’re still trying to make some money in other market, such as the NAS or Network Attached Storage that proved to have a rising popularity on these days.

They’ve just released their My Book Live, a network hard drive that has come with a Ethernet LAN (non USB) that made specially for hooking up with your home network.

The device is designed for backing up data, storing multimedia film, and streaming content to DLNA-certified gadgets such as HDTV, printer, media player and so on.

It sounds nice for storage-junkie who seems to never have enough of storage to store their junks. However, this Seagate 3TB HDD is only available for their blackArmor NAS system for now! Which mean, even if you have the money to purchase, you’ll not be able to buy the individual 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT hard drive (yet).

You’ll have to fork out about $1,988 to get Seagate BlackArmor NAS 440 with RAID 5, that would have 4 slots of 3TB hard drives fully loaded inside the NAS system (total of 12TB that you can enjoy).

LaCie has released a new Network Attached Storage Server dubbed as Network Space 2. This version is also getting the design from Neil Poulton, which turn it into the usual ‘mysterious’ black box with blue-LEDs glowing from the side. Network Space 2 edition is available in two general NAS size, which is 1TB and 2TB, weigh in total of 950 grams (almost 1kg), UPnP/DLNA compliant devices (including PS3 and Xbox 360 as well), USB and Gigabit Ethernet port, fanless design, compatible on both PC/Mac, and the NAS is backed by a good 2-year warranty.

“The Network Space 2 is a simple, out of the box solution for customers wanting to share and store media files from anywhere in the house,” said Patrick Salin, LaCie Digital Home Business Unit Manager.

“Whether a customer wants to centralize family photos, back up multiple computers or access music files using iTunes on the network, this device is a perfect connected storage solution for local use.”

LaCie NAS Network Space 2 is priced at £134.99 (UK). No idea when to hit US market.

Unlike the previous LG N4B1 model, this version has got 2TB of hard drive storage capacity plus a blu-ray drive. Practically 2TB smaller than its brother.

Inside the case you will found two slots of hard drive which sum up to 2TB. LG N2B1D 2TB NAS can be share onto your home network and uses by multiple PCs on the network. I guess this feature is quite common, but this NAS will works on a quite low power consumption at 44W and the noises is as low as 25dB which is not too shabby.

LG N2B1D 2TB NAS with Blu-ray drive will be off the shelf for 60,000,000 Won, or equal to $51,000+.

Okay, this fact is taken from the Korean Press Release. I guess there must be some kind of price error because I believe this thing won’t cost that much.

Lenovo has unveiled the new gen of Nettops of their generation, the Q100 / Q110 nettops that looks pretty funky and sleek with piano black finish. At the same time, Lenovo also introduces us to their latest home server coded as D400 which I believed is the first Home server system on Lenovo brand.

And the following is the IdeaCentre Q100 / Q110 Nettops with funny line-art in a cartoon style:

According to Lenovo, IdeaCentre Q100 / Q110 nettops are the thinnest nettops in the world. But they haven’t revealed much about the dimension and the full spec yet. The latest invention by Hitachi will set you free from relying the actually NAS system as your network storage. Hitachi SimpleNet is the device that will help you turning all of your USB Drives, such as flash drives or external Hard drive into your home network storage in a snap. Just plug in your Network cable to the ethernet port, and jack in your USB drive into the provided (two of them) USB ports.

At a mere $79, SimpleNet will connect your network and turning almost any external USB storage device into your NAS, with hot-swappable functionality. SimpleNet is actually design to work together with their SimpleTouch or SimpleDrive from Hitachi, but working with drives from other brand is also allowable. The only problem that will (probably) occur is the driver compatibility between your storage devices and SimpleNet USB-to-Ethernet gadget.

Here is another network storage for you to expand your storage capacity. It’s a new NAS from QNAP dubbed as QNAP SS-839 Pro Turbo NAS. What’s special in this series? Well, it has total of 8-bay ready for you to slot in 500GB 2.5-inch hard drive each which sum up to the total of 4TB maximum.

This is amazing, it physically defeated Western Digital ShareSpace in dimension, but lost completely to WD in Capacity.

If you are searching for capacity instead of NAS, you can go all out for LaCie 32TB super huge Storage System.

This QNAP SS-839 Pro Turbo NAS is an Intel Atom powered NAS. Provided up to 2GB RAM, supports RAID 0/1/3/6/5+ hot spare, single, and JBOD, Online RAID Capacity Expansion, and Online RAID Level Migration.

QNAP SS_839 Pro Turbo Network Attached Storage also offers AES 256-bit volume-based encryption for security reasons.
