You know, their first launch is kind of buggy anyway. Perhaps they’ve got some kind of phobia, but we hope Notion Ink Adam 2 will make a great come back instead of repeating the history.

There is no details on the Notion Ink Adam 2 yet, but word has it that the tablet will coming with the Tegra 3 Kal-El Quad core chip and a new generation of Pixel Qi display – which is the main selling point of Notion Ink Adam tablet. It’s interesting to see what OS the system will use and how it will compete with the growing giants like iOS and Android OS.

Tablets are good because they are extremely portable. Like a cell phone, we tend to bring it with us wherever we go and love to use it in the spare time like waiting in the queue, in the bus or train station. It’s super convenient, but it did come with one disadvantage. If you have one, you might have known that you will not want to play with it once you are in the street with bright sun light. The display become way too blur to see anything. Unless you’ve got a tablet like the one that use Pixel Qi display (I mean the Notion Ink Adam), you will have trouble navigating the item in your tablet.

Now, a Solar panel charger for a tablet might sounds good, but again, if the display is not sunlight-readable, it’s kind of useless anyway. Perhaps Pixel Qi is trying to motivate manufacturers to use their display technology, as recently they’ve developed a kind of solar accessory for tablet device. It’s a mini solar panel that tablet user can stick it to the rear side of a tablet, or even the bezel if it’s wide enough to draw power from the sun.

This Pixel Qi solar panel can generate up to 1W of power, can suitable for tablet that consumes 1W or less. But as far as what I’ve come to known, no popular or branded tablets consume power that less yet (let me know if I’m wrong!). It may suggested that the solar panel is only made for the company who uses Pixel Qi display that proved to consume less power while still providing sunlight readable feature. Will there be any solar solution that could generate higher wattage? Probably, but it seems Pixel Qi’s solar panel won’t do that for now.

IMHO, for a user like me, I wouldn’t want to let my tablet out for its sun-bathing. Reason? I don’t want it to have any kind of “Overheating” syndrome and I would treasure it like my baby. You know, all electronics are prone to heat and I don’t want mine to have a short-live.

I would be more interested if there is a kind of external solar panel for my tablet. That way I can hide the tablet in the bag, away from the direct sun’s heat while I can still charge the tablet properly.

Anyway, hit the play button below to watch the details on Pixel Qi’s Solar panel:

I’m quite a pixel Qi fans, so I’m pretty happy to hear that the company is going to improve their display and soon to offer the 7-inch version that claimed to work on a low-power condition, while promising the dual-mode displays like usual. This news was announced by the founder, Mary Lou Jepsen.

The shipping date is expected to be around the Q2 of 2011, however, Pixel Qi display samples could be requested if manufacturers need to include this energy saving sunlight-viewable display by the end of 2010. The 7-inch model will be made available as the solution for tablet PC, while the existing 10-inch display is focusing on attacking the netbook market.

Like what you may have known about Pixel Qi display, this E-ink display is capable of switching between two modes, offering a backlight-on and backlight-off mode. On the Off mode, the screen will turn itno a grayscale, or e-ink mode that consume about 20% power of a normal LCD.

Pixel Qi is a great display solution that offering an exceptional bright display even under the sun light. There is solid proof about how the Pixel Qi win over the iPad display at Gizmodo, for a quick glance you can hit the play button on the following Youtube movie:

Even the guy inside the video said: “iPad should use Pixel Qi!”

Well, it’s really a hands down winner and I’m doubt any netbook display can be a match for this Pixel Qi. This screen is pretty like a DIY display where you can screw down to a compatible netbook (for now, it’s only Samsung N130 and Lenovo S10-2 netbooks that has been tested). Pixel Qi Dual Mode display will cost $275 a pop, however, due to the popularity, the stock has been emptied by the early birds.
As a refresh, Pixel Qi (also known as 3Qi) is a screen that fully harnessing the technology of e-paper display allowing you to read your document under a bright sunlight. Founded by Mary Lou Jepsen, this screen is brighter than any other netbook display that you may find. You can see the Pixel Qi comparison over at Mary’s Blog, where you can see the side-by-side comparison between Kindle and Pixel Qi LCD, or Netbook display and the Pixel Qi dual-mode LCD.

Another good news brought by the company is they are currently working on a HDTV that will cost 10 watts of electricity when operating. That’s is one damn energy saving HDTV and potential electricity friendly gadget if it ever made to the market.

The founder of Pixel Qi, Mary Lou Jepsen has posted the comparison between full color mode and e-paper mode in her blog to let us know how it looks like. The photo is a bit blur so we can’t tell how is the appearance and how readable this 3Qi display under bright sunlight (no picture on this).

According to Wired, this screens will be available in this fall with the focus in the Netbook market. How this will affect the overall price is still in question. But let’s hope it could turn down the price instead of pushing it up.
