Despite of the release of smartphone with full video playback functionality, a PMP is not yet a thing that should be entered to the museum or discontinued. Cowon has just released their new PMP called C2 with full touchscreen display like a tablet. Even if it’s not capable of making call, Cowon C2 is still a product that worth your second look when you are in the market for a portable media player.

Specification wise, Cowon C2 is featuring 2.6-inch screen supporting up to 320 x 240 pixels, has built-in battery that could handle up to 10 hours of video playback, had video output A/V (no HDMI port, sadly) and it will be available in several capacity model including 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. If the internal storage is insufficient for you, you can stuff in a microSD card to the provided slot and add about 16GB storage at max.

Cowon haven’t released the detail for this C2 PMP yet. However, it should be a product that will compete in price with the super duper smartphones like HTC, Motorola DROID, Samsung Galaxy S, etc. Also, you might not be able to get one of this if you are not in Korea.

iRiver which previously well-known of their PMP gadget has rolled out a new media player called U100. This U100 has been equipped with 3.1-inch touchscreen display supporting 320x480p resolution. The U100 media player allow you to playback 720p video but the display won’t support the full size without resize to its own resolution.

iRiver U100 is also coming with WiFi connectivity, FM tuner and support plethora of audio, video and photo format including the most uses files like wmv, mp3, jpeg, etc.

The old walkman cassette player is no more a trend, but Sony has revived the brand by twisting more features and functionality into the device. Now, after so many release of similar looking Walkman, Sony has unleashes two new Walkman PMP series under the code name of NWZ-E353 and NWZ-E354.

These two series is distinguishable via the capacity of the player, where NWZ-E353 is carrying 4GB of storage, while NWZ-E354 is getting 8GB of storage space.

Both Sony Walkman NWZ-E350 series comes with an identical features and specs, such as the colorful display, FM Tuner, clear audio technologies, SenseMe technology, new UI with Album scroll and scene scroll, can bookmark and create new playlists on-the-fly, support MP3, WMA, AAC, linear PCM audio files and WMV video files.

China Manufacturer, Hicooper has rolled out a new e-book reader called Hicooper B1 that has got a 5-inch screen. This Hicooper has a little bit Amazon Kindle’s (or nook) look from the sideways while it has a bit of that Sony Readers looking at the bottom side buttons arrangement.

This Hicooper B1 5-inch eBook Reader is capable of displaying 800 x 480 colorful screen using 1600mAh battery, however we have no idea how long it can last when used continuously.

Hicooper B1 5-inch e-book reader support plethora of ebook formats (PDF, CHM, EPUB , TXT, HTML, RTF, PDB, DJVU, IW44, FB2, PRC, MOBI, TCR) and HD movie formats, including RM, RMVB, AVI, MOV, WMV, MKV, VOB files (max 720p) as well as the usual OGG, APE, FLAC, ACC and MP3.

The company with lots of sexy girls as their product model, Teclast, has begun shipping their new reading device that looks more like a PMP with reading capabilities. Known as the K5 e-book reader, this reading gadget has been announced a week ago. According to the source, Teclast is carrying 5-inch c-Paper technology liquid crystal display screen with true color supporting 480 x 800 pixel resolution. It’s the first time the hear about C-paper technology, and I couldn’t find the definition of c-paper itself (It seems it’s stand for “Crystal Paper”).

Teclast K5 e-book reader can read TXT, PDF, PDB, DOC , EPUB, HTML and other rich e-book format including Microsoft Word files. It has 4GB of internal storage, expandable via SD card slot. Teclast Ebook reader also supports 720p HD video playback, but it doesn’t come with HDMI output port.

Other features that you might love to know are the battery life that could work continuously for 12 hours between charges, and it has a music player as well as a voice recorder. The most impressive is the pricing. Teclast K5 Ebook reader will cost you $102 only (699 Yuan) and that’s really great price mark when considering all the features it has.

Microsoft is going to refresh its Zune HD and the PMP player will be coming with 64GB of total storage size in this 12 April. This portable media player is going to cost you $349, a bit expensive but you can carry up to 25,000 pictures, 20 hours of HD video or storing 16,000 songs. More than enough to let your hear to your music until you explode.

Microsoft Zune HD 64GB will still using the same system-on-a-chip system (NVIDIA Tegra SoC) and it has the same screen size at 3.3-inch supporting 480×272 OLED touchscreen, FM-Radio receiver and WiFi is also available.

Microsoft has today confirmed its own leak and announced that a Zune HD model with 64GB of built-in storage space will become available via ZuneOriginals.com as of April 12. The upcoming portable player will cost $349.99 and will be able to carry 16,000 songs, 20 hours of high definition video or 25,000 pictures.

Capacity update aside, the 64GB Zune HD will have the same features as its little brothers – an Nvidia Tegra SoC (system-on-a-chip), a 3.3-inch (480×272) OLED screen, a built-in FM radio receiver and 802.11b/g WiFi. Baidu, the large spider machine (search engine) from China has come up with a new prime edition of Portable Media Player dubbed as B618 PMP. Do not look at it as ‘just another PMP from China’, this Baidu B618 is coming with dual core CPU (perhaps ARM Cortex A9 MPCore) which capable of viewing/playing plethora of movie and audio files, and it has also supported 720p resolution movie playback.

Up to 20 video formats supported on Baidu B618 PMP, including H.264 (High Profile / Main Profile), Real 8/9/10, WMV7/8/9, MPEG1/2/4, DivX3/4/5, Xvid, H.263. Let’s face the Monday greeting with some exciting price drop news. Microsoft recently has dropped the price of Zune HD Portable Media Player to $200 for the 16GB model and to $270 for the 32GB model.

There is not much drop actually, but a few bucks dropped is a few bucks saved. You can even find a lower price if you head to Amazon. Amazon list them as $190 for 16GB model ($10 lower) and about $250 for 32GB model ($20 lower!). Though there is no news whether this price drop is a permanent price or not, I suggest you to be quick to buy one before anything happen.

Another PMP has popped out carrying the FULL HD functionality. We have seen some of the species before, such as Cube H600HD and iToos M6HD, RAmos T17FHD is also the similar stuff. Supporting Full High Definition, has 16GB internal storage (expansible using external microSD card), a good 4.3-inch 800 x 480 pixels resolution display, and support almost all popular codec and media format including H.264, MPEG1/2/4.

RAmos T17FHD Portable Media Player has HDMI out, a convenience feature for HDTV owner to view their PMP content in their HDTV.
