Sony NGP, the so called Next-Gen Portable gaming handheld which is as strong as the PS3 specs and about as fast as a super phone is rumored to cost between $299 to $349 per-unit. Though I sincerely hope it could cost $299, but if it’s taking the specification in talk, that price mark is just insane. Unless Sony want to repeat the same marketing plan to loss dollars per unit sold like PS3 (for years!), the price mark should be corrected. Device powered by quad core Cortex A9 CPU, quad core PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU and any other amazing features like the dual touchscreen interfaces are enough to float the pricing to $500 or above.

However, if Sony’s intention is to beat Nintendo 3DS, I guess they’ve no other choices but to get it cheaper than ever. The only thing to worry is about the ‘Quality’ of the device. I’ve never doubt about Sony’s product as I’ve owned handy of them, so let’s hope it not just like the quality of cloned device that you can find it on the mainland.

I guess Sony won’t let Apple take the whole cake alone in the mobile gaming market anymore. It’s said that Sony PSP2 will let user download content via 3G connection, get connected with friends online and more.

Bloomberg, one of the reliable news source has reported that Sony will be unveiling something ‘super’ in this year Mobile World Congress In Barcelona, which will be held on February 14th to 17th. According to their statement, “an updated PlayStation Portable handheld game device on Jan. 27, followed by a game-playing smartphone in February” which tip that PlayStation Portable 2 will be released sooner than the long rumored Sony PlayStation Phone or XPERIA Play.

It’s also reported that PSP2 will have a similar powerful specification as PS3 and will be officially released in the Q4 of 2011 near the Christmas Holiday season. That would worth the wait because it’s interested to be able to touts a handheld gaming machine with the similar processing power as PS3.

The latest information about Sony PlayStation Phone has brought us closer to the fact that the gaming handheld is as strong as the modern handset.

It’s was leaked that Sony Playstation Phone will be powered by SnapDragon 1GHz processor, has Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM, plus it has one large 4-inch touchscreen display.

Also, take a look at the following unofficial video leak on the PlayStation Phone. It’s clearly showing us that the phone is running games (biohazard 2 and rage racer) properly without hangs. It looks cool, but it’s still far from my expectation of being the next generation of PSP console. The graphic is so-so, and the controller looks pretty suck…

Now the question is, will Sony really want to release their PSP2 within their Sony Ericsson phone as a supplemental feature? Or is Sony Playstation Phone and PSP2 is two different product that will hit the market this year?

Things will become more interesting once Sony has made their official announcement later in this year.

This is awesome! After teased with the blurred images, Sony has finally revealed the prototype of PSP Phone (Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone, or whatever you want to call it with).

In the video below, you can clearly see the demo of the user interface. It’s clearly written that the phone is powered by Google Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread with ‘Zeus’ as the model number.

The screen looks great, has the usual touchscreen functionality like an Android phone, but the dimension is pretty ‘Phat’ when comparing to nowadays latest release smartphones.

As for the gaming system. It seems it’s ‘emulated’ within Gingerbread OS as you can clearly seeing the app icon of Playstation in the menu. However, how strong this baby can perform is still unknown. Will it really up for the 60fps gaming system with about double of the PSP 3000 performance? Let’s just wait and see!

However, it’s just a rumor that you can’t take it seriously. The Sony PSP phone has been confirmed of its existence, but there is no words yet if that phone is the PSP 2 that we are talking about.

According to the past rumors, Sony Ericsson PSP phone will be running on Google Android OS, so it’s pretty much a different platform with the current PSP system. Will the phone dual boot with Android and the Z-system? Or the Android OS will get some type of emulator to run PSP games? Or PSP 2 and PSP Phone is two different gadget that has no relation at all?! No one know what’s cooking in Sony’s kitchen yet.

We have seen what the future PSP2/PlayStation Phone is, have heard lots of the speculations and rumors, but here is one that is pretty intriguing.

After Sony CFO stepped up to confirmed of the existence of PSP2 or PlayStation Phone, now the CEO Bert Nordberg has also stood up and said to WSJ about the possibility of the launching in 2011 at MWC Expo.

Nordberg told the Wall Street Journal that “There’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere”, He than continues saying “Sony has an extremely strong offering in the gaming market, and that’s very interesting.”

As far as the real product prototype for the PSP 2 or Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone, there is no confirmation yet from Sony. Remember, it’s still a rumor with unconfirmed truth that you shouldn’t take it seriously…

Recently the news about the leaked image of the upcoming Sony PSP 2 called the Sony Playstation Phone is spreading like wild fire in the blog-o-sphere. It’s entirely a new platform, or should I say it’s a Gaming Handheld and Smartphone Combo. It looks pretty cool since we have no need to bring two devices along with us when travelling, especially if you are a hardcore gamers that can’t live without your handheld console.

The Sony Playstation Phone leaked was rumored as the prototype of the PSP2, powered by Android OS (most-likely it would be that sweet honeycomb 3.0 version), get the twice as fast as 3DS performance using 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor, 512MB RAM, 1GB of ROM, 4.1-inch large multi-touchscreen, slide-out gamepad like PSP Go, and including the rear touchscreen panel which has been shaded away in the picture.

Rumors are saying that PSP2 is going to perform at 60fps, and I guess it’s possible because of the strong processor. Even better, the HD display might not just a false news. Some said it’s fake, but later it’s confirmed about the existence of PlayStation Phone and probably would running with a system called Z-System.

Wiht all the speculation out there, we can’t make sure which one is the most accurate one. But we personally would love to have something like Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Sony PSP Combo in our pocket. It’s not only useful for business, it’s also great for fun when alone. Kind of a one stone two birds strategy if Sony create PSP2 as a device like this.

Reported by Kotaku, PSP2 is rumored to have a backside touch control that could be used to control certain in-game action, and a HD display that is about an inch larger than the current PSP. There is no further news about the spec, but we assume that Sony has show their PSP2 capability and features to some selected developers so they can start developing the game for this new PSP2. It’s just not the time yet for them to release the full details.

At the moment, it’s reported that Sony is currently improving their internal hardware of PSP2, and preventing any overheating problem cause by the fast processing specification that allow games to operate in 60fps environment. The release date of this PSP2 might drop at the Fall season of the 2011, and perhaps we should be able to see this new baby on the show in the E3 Expo next year.

Several developers has claimed to received their own PSP2 Development Kit from Sony, and earlier in this month, Netherrealm Studio (the Mortal Kombat Developer) has giving a supportive statement about their possession of the PlayStation Portable 2 development Kit.

However, Sony still keep quite in this matter, But Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick has given out a strong statement to IndustryGamers.

“We’re not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We’re running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We’re definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it’s a pretty powerful machine. We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is.”

Though there is no further details leaked from his mouth, however, we can safely conclude that PSP2 is a high-end next gen portable handheld game console that could run games at impressive 60fps. Of course, We believe the system is also getting a huge performance boost to allow such a frame-per-second rate. More data will be revealed on next year’s E3 Expo press conference.

Another new PSP rumor has raised from the sleeve of Sony. Although Sony still keep quiet about this rumor, guys at 1UP.com has the leaked(?) information about the future Sony PSP will have no more UMD and replaced with Flash storage in two size of 8GB and 16GB.

The above image is artist’s rendered. So, it’s still not the final/true future Sony PSP. The next generation PSP will have only one analog control, the D-PAD will show itself when you slide them like HTC Touch Pro2. No word about the screen is touchable or not. But Let’s hope we can get a similar feature as iPhone in the next generation Sony PSP.

The naming of the next generation PSP is going to be a suffixed-based such as Sony PSP Go!, PSP Slide or PSP Flip instead of running number similar to PlayStation Console (PS1, PS2, PS3).

The launching date is suggested in this September in Japan while US launching date will be around the late October. Once again, this is just a rumor as Sony really cast a ‘mute’ spell to not leaking a further news about it.

Is it true? Oh, I’m so excited about this rumor. PSP2 is rumored to be having a multi-touch screen technology to level-up the gaming experience. Here is a little statement from IGN that stated there are several credible source told them about the coming soon PSP2:

IGN has learned from several credible sources that the PSP 2 is indeed on the horizon, and will be packing multi-touch technology. According to our sources, the PSP 2 will feature a widescreen multi-touch interface comparable to that of the iPhone for both in-game control and menu navigation. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure any additional details on the alleged new system, but this latest batch of rumors seems to fall in line with other recent claims orbiting the vast recesses of the internet.

This latest batch of rumors comes on the heels of an allegedly official Sony survey leaked by enthusiast blog, PSPFanboy.com, which asked consumers what features would compel them the most to buy a new PSP. Among the choices offered by the survey were a touch screen interface, Bluetooth support, an integrated hard drive, GPS, and nationwide wireless networking. If true, the survey seems to further suggest that Sony is in the process of drastically revising the PSP’s core hardware.

But somehow the Sony representatives refuse to telling the truth and unwilling to accept the rumors about the PSP2 when the IGN folks contact them about the rumor. Well, let’s just hope it’s true.
