Voltaic Systems has announced a new eco-friendly backpack that you can use to recharge your portable gadget while you are walking on the street. It’s a Array 10 Watts solar charger backpack that has come with a removeable solar pocket.

This Voltaic Array is coming with a large 16000mAh battery that could even charge larger device such as laptop. Obviously, smaller gadget like cell phone, tablet or media player are supported. Voltaic Systems has bundled the backpack with a bunch of different connectors and universal adapters.

Talking about its space, this backpack is offering 1,500 cubic-inches of space which is enough to store a lot of thing. It supported 17-inch laptop, has phone poach and several pockets inside the bag.

As for the battery pack, it can be fully charged with the solar panel in 12-hours, but you can still use AC outlet to charge it when there is no sunlight in sight.

Eco-lover who love to travel around the city might love this new solution released by Quirky. This community developed product is called the “Ray”, which is a portable solar charger for any portable gadgets such as smartphones, PMP, MP3 players or mini tablet.

All you need to do is to plug it into your gadget and expose the Quirky Ray to a bright sun light to allow it to harvest the natural energy and convert into usable energy. The default interface is USB, but I guess we can find some kind of adapter to convert it into other type of connector for other gadgets.

Since it has a long cable, users can place their gadget somewhere far from the sun’s heat to avoid overheating. I haven’t seen any nice looking solar charger lately as most solar powered charger come with a big ugly face wih lots of lines and blue/purple based panel. Obviously, a solar panel charger is not required to looks good anyway as long as they can generate power for our gadgets. But by looking good is also not going to hurt anybody.

Dunhill supposedly to have this type of idea, so they’ve come up with an elegant, classy, stylish solar powered charger can call them bluntly as Dunhill Solar Charger (codename: QGL079).

So why a fashion brand like Dunhill have to indulged themselves into this ‘green’ market? Something that it’s 180-degree of their current market? Well, I don’t have to idea either. Perhaps they’re are trying to leap out from their market or broadening their reach. But What I would care is the specs of the solar panel and how much it would cost.

There is no much specs revealed by Dunhill, but the website has stated that the Solar charger has some type of built-in battery that could charges up to 30 hours for portable devices like smartphones or MP3 players. Also, the solar panel can be used to recharge itself or via USB port.

To live up their brand name, Dunhill has also included a nice looking embossed leather case for this solar charger. Now, since it’s from branded name in the fashion world, I’m curious whether the influence would sky rocketed the price. There is no pricing details from Dunhill themselves, but I’m sure it’s something that only those “bornrich” are willing to buy.

So what’s up in Brando’s lab? Well, they’ve created just another useful gadget after mixing three gadgets into one. The USB solar Charging USB hub may looks quite simple. Named as the ‘Solar Pebble’, the device is a sun-powered eco-friendly lamp that will absorb sun power, store the energy to the rechargeable batteries inside the lamp and then release it when the day gets dark.

After the portable solar charger from Kodak, Korea-based company ZYRUS has launched another portable solar charger, but it’s more advanced and even more compact dimension with USB interface.

ZYRUS Compact USB Solar charger is also known as the “Sun Drive”, which is designed to solar charge most of handheld gadgets such as PMPs, cell phones, DAP, or even Digital camera. The Sun Drive can provides 90 to 100 minutes extra talk time and about 25 to 35 hours of standby time with one charge. The size is allow small enough to bring along with your gadgets, whether you want to strap them together or put it on the separated pocket.

We have missed the release date of this cool Kodak Solar charger last month. Kodak Solar charger is nearly an ‘universal charger’ because the solar charger works with almost any kind of gadgets you have. This including digital camera, PMP, cell phones, iPods and many more.

This concept is very cool because it’s a foldable type of gadget concept. There’s been some the same type gadget concept on our database and this one is yet another cool gadget with multiple functions as an iPod Dock and at the same time it’s also an ECO-charger for iPod.

The designer, Tom Pritchard was inspired by bellows of an accordion when creating this concept design. The unfolded position will shaped in a triangle shape, where 3 hinged parts connecting each other.

The speakers are passive and can run off a docked iPod or iPhone, but when sufficient light hits the solar cells, which are mounted on the rear of the speakers, the built-in amplifier turns on and boosts the volume and charges the docked gadget as well. — EcoFriend
