Would you pay $25 for a light source that you can reuse, waterproof and ultra portable? I would. Because such thing would be very useful when something bad happens (earthquake, tsunami, flood, etc.) that will make the electricity goes off for days or weeks.

Well, I’m talking about this new solar light called LuminAID. This solar light is said to be able to provide a maximum of 6 hours low light per 4-6 hours recharging via the solar panel (depending on how bright the sun is). It’s just like trading 1 hour of recharge for 1 hour of light source. It might sounds lame, but you will
appreciate it when disaster really happened.

LuminAID is easy to store because it is not coming as big as the picture above. It’s actually some kind of inflatable transparent plastic bag with the solar panel and device installed in the inner side of the bag. You can deflate it to save space, and inflate it later when you are trying to light up some area.

Since it’s made with a seal container, after inflating the bag, you can even let it float on the water because it’s waterproof. Of course, you have to be careful with sharp stuff as this LuminAID would become less useful when you can inflate the bag anymore.

Here, take a look at how LuminAID portable solar light will help you:

Head on over to IndieGoGo for more details.

Love to have an everlasting candle to lit up your room? Sure, you can now get such kind of long life candle as it’s been enhanced into a lamp! However, unlike any ordinary lamp, this candle can self powered as it’s been equipped with solar panel at the rear side of the candle.

The candle itself is made with real wax and there is no external battery required for its operation. It has its own built-in energy storage generated by the solar panel and it’s enough to light up the room for the entire night.

Solar Powered Candle

The Solar Powered Candle looks and feels like an ordinary candle because it’s made from real wax, but it’s far from ordinary. This candle is solar powered, which means no mess with melted wax or an elongated game of hide and seek to find some matches. Plus, it’s flame-free which means it’s ideal to use around pets and kids!

It’s also quick and easy to use. Switch the candle on and simply place the candle in a sunny spot such as a window sill or conservatory. The candle will charge during the day, and provide a radiant light when the sun goes down. It provides the perfect ambiance in any home.

Solar Powered Candle is currently available at Gizoo UK for £12.95 or equal to US$21. Go get one if you are interested. Also check out other solar illumination like the solar light wall and eco lantern.

Harvesting natural energy is like a dream in the past, however, we are at it now. With the speed of development in solar panel technology, many of the manufacturers have produces a consumer-level type of solar panel or kit that would make charging gadget easier with the help of the mighty sun. The latest solar charger kit has been released by Changers call Solar Starter Kit.

This solar charging solution is coming in two separated elements. First is the Maroshi Solar panel and the other one is the Kalhuohfummi solar battery. In order to fill the battery, users have to connect the Maroshi solar module into the Kalhuohfummi solar battery and expose the solar panel to the sun. The solar panel will generate about 4-watt per hour of natural energy and about 4 hours of time could fully recharge the battery.

Later on, you can use the Kalhuohfummi solar battery to recharge any supported devices such as iPod, iPhone, Android phones, Kindle, portable consoles (PSP, NDS) and other cell phones.

If you are interested, you can take a look for the details at Changers.

It’s been awhile a tech-fashion jargon existed in the market, and today it’s been flourished once again by RL with their RLX Solar Panel Backpack.

Why solar panel, you’d say? Well, nowadays people are racing toward to live a greener life for their own good and as a move to love the mother earth and protect it. Solar panel generate power naturally without burning any fossil resources and it won’t emit any hazardous gas to polluted the air. Ralph Lauren has done a great job in keeping with the green technology and I believe their hard work will pays off in the future.

Their latest RLX solar panel backpack has the solar panel mounted on the read side of the bag, where it can capture sun’s energy while you are piggybacking the bag around the street.

Ralph Lauren made RLX solar panel backpack available in two color choices, including black and and lively orange color that most youth will prefer to get one.

You can find the details of RL solar panel backpack at RalphLauren website, while the backpack itself will cost you $795 to own one. Well, a price that you should expect from a branded one.

Want to save some of your money? You can coupon code “RELIEF” (without the quotes – coupon expires on April 14) to save 25% on all orders with no minimum purchase required. The coupon even stackable and about 10% of the total amount will be donated to the Japan relief effort. Buying green product with discount while helping others? Sounds like a great idea to me.

In Summer season, very often our yard or garden will be hosted with a swarms of insects, mosquitoes, and probably poisonous bugs. A good solution is to install a power-free insect zapper, best if we can find device powered by Solar panel so there is no need to use battery because most of the time they are hazardous to environment.

So here we got one nice looking Solar Powered Insect Zappers, very easy to install and it won’t cost you a fortune.

This set of four solar insect lights simply stake into the ground anywhere in your yard and harness the sun’s energy to efficiently eliminate over 100 varieties of flying insects. The UV bulb turns on automatically at dusk and lures mosquitoes, flies, and other insects to eliminate them instantly with a 300-volt electric charge, providing chemical-free bug protection for up to eight hours on a full charge.

An integrated solar panel requires only moderate sunlight and charges the internal batteries in eight hours. A grate surrounds the bulbs to discourage curious hands and protect wayward pets, and the housing is made from 100% stainless steel that resists damage from sun and rain. The units switch from bug zappers to accent lights at the touch of a button.

This solar insects zappers comes in a set of 4 and you can get it for $99.95 only at Hammacher.

I have missed out the first and the second version of Kinesis, so let’s just jump to their latest Kinesis K3, a handheld recharger that now comes in 3 ways of recharging your gadgets or mobile devices.

So what’s the 3 Ways? Kinesis K3 now capable of powering up your gadgets by using direct power source input, Through Solar Panel or using the Fan to capture winds and produces electricity.

Kinesis K3 package comes with one AC Plug, 12-volt cigarette lighter plug for your car, and a USB adapter. Especially useful when hiking to the deep mountain. You can use the wind + solar panel option to charge your gadgets faster, much better than relying on single source of natural power.

K3 also has an internal 4,000 mAh battery that could do a good five times cell phone recharge or equal to 10 times recharge for your MP3 player. One option that I wish to see but not included in this version, is the kinetics power option Similar to Orange Dance Charger.

A single source of solar panel can give you about 30 minutes of cell phone talk time (with 1 hour of continuous sun light), It might be able to triple it up if you can fully harness the three sources (with kinetic) while traveling through the mountain/forest.

Price estimation is around 100 bucks, and Kinesis K3 will be available around this June 2009.

This ventilated cap is purely design for geek to show how they are into the green energy. It’s very weird I’d say. A 2-inch square size solar panel attached at the top of the cap, connected directly using cable to the front ventilated hole filled with a low power consumption fan.

Once the solar panel captures solar light, the fan will start to blows some hot air to your face. I really can’t expect for much cool air from this cap. Well, it’s better than nothing. At least you will get some breeze winds in a shiny windless garden/park. Better more, it’s a purely an expression of geek fashion!

If you are a geek soul, you may want to get it for $5.99 at Computer Geeks. Pretty cheap.

Update:
There are two colors available: Blue and Tan.

It can easily contain a 17″ laptop with its size of 17″ x 12″ x 3.5″. It has the price of $599 which is just priced recently. According to the information I’ve got, it’s an outdated launching stuff. They promise to launch it this spring, but you know, it’s summer already!

I don’t have a clue when they will throw this stuff to the market anymore since the launching day has passed! It’s a cool bag because we can charge laptop on the fly, but it’s very uncool because of the “coming soon” label still tightly sticking on the merchant site.
